I believe that sustainable devlopment must take into account the ability of future generations to sustain themselves. As we deplete resources now we sabotage the chances of our children and grand-children to salvage what is left of our bruised planet.

Soviet Dragon is on target ! Bravo Comrade! I would like to propose we take things one step further. Resources are very limited. The history of humanity is littered with examples of wars and attrocities commited because of insufficient resources. Humanity must stop procreating. Less people means more resources. We can all do our part by not having children.. Enjoy your life and stop making babies. Live and let live.

I think Sustainble Development is not only about economic and social developement. It is a development cocept which has beeen conceived in order to preserve natural resources and environment so tha our future generation won't face scarcity of reources in huge amount as predicted by reseachers. Sustainable Development should ensure that everybody, now and later on, can have equitable ownership and reach to resources they require for their basic livelihood and further development.

According to the UN Global Environmental Development Commission, Whenever we can satisfy current needs of human beings, without putting into danger the capabilities of future generation for satisfying their needs, we've had sustainable development.

what is important? Definition of sustainable development or the strategy to achieve it. Is it possible to meet the need of present without minimizing the capacity to meet need for future?

Sustainable Development would require sustained institutional action in order to define the objectives to be reached and means for their achievement.
This MDG goal needs strong institutions capable of setting out, promoting and following up plans, on the national level, to get concrete results.
Best Regards,
Safaa Moussa
