The Best Country to Live and Why?

Ireland is named 'best country'
Dubliners have reason to be cheerful, the survey finds
Ireland is the best place to live in the world, according to a "quality of life" assessment by Economist magazine.
The country's combination of increasing wealth and traditional values gives it the conditions most likely to make its people happy, the survey found.
Ireland was followed by Switzerland, Norway and Luxembourg. All but one of the top 10 were European countries.
The USA languished in 13th, while Britain was 29th - the lowest of the pre-expansion EU nations.
'TOP TEN COUNTRIES'
1 Ireland
2 Switzerland
3 Norway
4 Luxembourg
5 Sweden
6 Australia
7 Iceland
8 Italy
9 Denmark
10 Spain
The survey was prepared for the Economist's "World in 2005" publication, with the remit: "Where will be the best place to live in 2005?"
Researchers took into account not just income, but other factors considered important to people's satisfaction and well-being.
They included health, freedom, unemployment, family life, climate, political stability and security, gender equality and family and community life.
The Economist said: "Ireland wins because it successfully combines the most desirable elements of the new, such as low unemployment and political liberties, with the preservation of certain cosy elements of the old, such as stable family and community life."
The magazine admits that measuring quality of life is not a straightforward thing to do, and that its findings will have their critics - "except, of course, in Ireland".
Breakdown in Britain
The researchers said although the UK achieved high income per head, it had high levels of social and family breakdown.
The worst of the 111 countries to live in was considered to be Zimbabwe, "where things have gone from bad to worse under [President] Robert Mugabe".
Russia , Egypt, Pakistan and China are at the botton on the ranking.

Ireland is truly the best example to follow for the whole world.
troubled with what seemed like ages of conflict and strife ( remember Yeats' Terrible Beauty) they chose a future of peace and now they have the best present to boast of !

I've gotta say that Aotearoa/New Zealand is the best place in my biast opinion.
I haven't been to any other country (yet) except for Australia, so my opnion probably wouldn't hold in many peoples minds as a valid one!
But there's nothing like the country you were born in.
Other than that, I like the potential that we have as a country and people to become something of a great country in many different - but unique - aspects.

My sharmfull country with its old and new civilizations from pharaohs till now
the amaing nile
the sea with all colores, the desert which turned to green , the degrees of greening along the long fields, all kinds of trees and roses
every thing is beautiful
and the most beautiful is the love between people and the welcome of strangers that they feel they are a part of it
and when drink the nile water they must return again
for me I am like the fish could not go out the sea

Australia... I know I live here, so I could be biased in my thoughts... but we have it all... Freedom of thought, speech, movement... We accept people, we are multi-cultural... We have a great economy, outstanding tourism and a whole lot more...I just LOVE Australia...

Hey, people, have you ever been to Ukraine? It can be compared with nothing in the whole Universe. Though our country is beautiful it's so much spoiled by its government. Help us!http://www.takingitglobal.org/images/connections/db/emotes/crying.gif

I haven't been to that many countries, but I'm going to vouch for Canada. It's a very global place with people from all over the world, and what's great about it is that all these people can get along together so well. It's peaceful but has a strong national spirit that brings people from different cultures together to form a growing nation.
