Making the world a better place
November 27, 2006 - 07:19 AM

I just wanted to open a new thread where everyone can write down what we all can DO to make the world a better place.
This can be projects or just some things in our every-day life.

Just remember: It is not your fault that the world is like it is but it would be your fault if it keeps like it is!

Personally can't say it all; but to make this world a better place, we should always give education priority and also consider the eradification of poverty. Atleast individuals has to be formost confortable to bring out the best!

Pple should start seeing others for who they are and what they do looking past the colour of their skin. Racial segregation is still a major issue in our world. The rift between racial groups still exists and it's about time we stopped stereotyping others according to their race. It's a longshot bt definitely worth the effort.

What a great idea - thank you for posting. You have hit the nail on the head - helping to make the world a better place is exactly what ABC4All is all about!

We ask the question, "What would make your personal community better for all?"

This is a question that anyone and everyone can answer - please take a moment and share one or two sentences. You can post your answers here at this forum, at the ABC4All TIG BLOG or you can post at the "BetterIf" website.

What do I, personally, think would help make the world a better place?

If more people like YOU wanted to help to make the difference! We need to continue to collect the community of people who will not be content to accept the status quo but will communicate to leaders that changes must be made and that every life (children of all ages) has to be protected.

Burt

"Personally can't say it all; but to make this world a better place, we should always give education priority and also consider the eradification of poverty." Plato123

actually look at what you said - because these are not unrelated ideas - they are directly connected.

the more education the less poverty.

improving education among the poor would lift them out of poverty.

There is an old Hebrew Proverb

"give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach a man to fish and he eats for the rest of his life"

lack of proper education fuels much of the violence int he world -

it leads to religious fundamentalism, and sectarianism, and racism -

it also leads to poverty - affluence has to be CREATED, it must be continually CREATED.

that requires an education in higher levels of thinking - that lead to creativity. And the ability to organize and produce affluence.

there is a stunning lack of creativity in world leadership accross the board.

but look at India and China. incredibly poor countries just 10 years ago.

2 Billion people live in those 2 countries, 35% of the worlds population.

now they are becoming world economic leaders and powerhouses in their own right.

there will still be many, many poor in these countries - for a long time -

but it will become less and less as the general standard of living improves.

and education was crucial in both countries.

it also requires political stability - but aren't more educated societies more stable??

That's what they want you to think--er, wait, yes. That's true, educated countries and societies usually are more understanding, less violent, and really a lot more safe, in my honest opinion. Though, there are also sects of communities where people teach in ways that make people a lot more violent... I'll never forget the day that I turned on the television and learned of two popular girls who, though innocent, young, and popular for their music, were white nationalist, being home schooled under their mother's tutelage and believed (after their mother's teaching) that there were not enough Jews around at the time for the holocost to have even happened.
They were indeed educated and good with math and english... but decently mislead.

I think what the world needs most is a single history covering the entire world's history from a neutral standpoint; I've noticed each place has its own form of history tailored to their own thoughts.

This would, perhaps, allow for a better form of education and prevent people from missing out on important facts that were omited from their own textbooks as they studied other countries... especially since not as many people get the chance to go out and study other countries on their own time.

I think that neutrality is a thing that does not really exist. Especially in the point of history. And what should be the use of a common "neutral" history? The rulers of those countries who fake history books would not allow their population access to it, or they would simply say in their propaganda that everything is a lie.

But let's come back to the topic. I think that one of the most important things which should be changed is womens rights because this would have many effects to the world. If women would have access to schools and good education the HIV risk would be much lowe, the problem of "overpoulation" would be reduced and money given to the hands of women would probably be used much more responsible than it would be if it is given to some men. This are only a few facts of many changes that could be caused by a progress in womens rights.

We have been aware of a book that really spells out how to make a difference in your community. Although this was written in US, I believe it could be translated into many languages and different editions created for various regions of the world. But the basic info is there and applies to any location. You can see the info about Making a Difference: Changing the World One Penny and One Minute at a Time" by clicking here.

I believe the most important thing that people have to realize is that almost everyone does what they believe is right, no matter how wrong it may seem to us. few people go out thinking "I think I'll be evil today."

even most terrorists believe that they are doing the right thing and until they are shown that it isn't right, they will continue to follow the path that they believe to be the correct one. We must show people all sides of every veiwpoint and teach our children good morals so that they are able to make the right choices. We must all have an opened mind, because sometimes we will believe that we are right when we aren't and will need to be shown otherwise. At the same time, we must never choose a path that seems wrong--for they are out there and often can seem very tempting.

to sum it all up, we need opened minds, knowledge, and understanding.angelic

This one may seem a bit obvious but if everyone did it at the same time...

Wake up and realise just because you are you, and your views are your views, doesn't give them any extra strength.

We all need to think about what we think, and why we think it smile Would hopefully get rid of a fair bit of prejudice and hatred.
