WAR
November 27, 2006 - 03:51 AM

Little did we guess that what has been called the century of
the common man would witness as its outstanding features more
Common men killing each other with greater facilities than any
Other five centuries together in the History of the World.

In the arts of Life, man invent nothing; but in the arts of death,
He outdoes Nature herself, and produces by chemistry
And machinery all the slaughter of plague, pestilence and famine.

So Long as mankind shall continue to lavish more praise upon
Its destroyers than upon its benefactors,
War shall remain The Chief pursuit of ambitious minds.
I wish it could be fixed up, so’ the men that start the war could do the fighting.

If however, there is to be a war of nerves, let us make sure our nerves are strong
And fortified by the deepest conviction of our hearts, For in War there are no Winners!!
War is all hell… I look upon war with horror, for it is the greatest plague that can afflict mankind…
Any Scourge is preferable to it.

You are unfortunately right, Biotex. History is mainly written by the victors of wars, the people who are proud of the outcome. The vanquished and defeated, in many cases, have their history snuffed out. Carthage comes to mind: once the feared enemy of Rome, a mighty civilization based in what is today Tunisia. It hardly appears as a blip on history's radar, and then only as described ny the Roman histrorians of the day. I do think one has to be a bit more charitable to the 20th century, though. Yes, the most horrific wars were fought then, but history has slowly been taken out of the hands of the few and spread a little more widely. I wish there could be a "factual" history that we could all agree on. But the worst people in this world also have an intense desire to "revise" history to justify wahtever evil schemes they are now up to. I remember a historian by the name of Fukuyama who came to fame by proclaiming the fall of communism as "The End of History"! Man, did he get it wrong. There is always a new evil force that steps into the empty shoes of the prior one. Okay, and sometimes what was a good force becomes an evil one. Getting back to your point: as long as war is glorified (and certain religions guarantee immediate entry into heaven/paradise for martyrdom), men will go to war.

this hasmade me think what does war gives us? nothing.usually victory is hollow as it means wiping out of innocent civilians and also many sodiers. eg -many Indian soldiers died in europe during world war 2 as they were forced into battlefield by colonial master-Britain. they laid down their lives for a cause alien to them as India was fighting Britain for freedom and libertry(the same values for whsoe protection second world war was being fought and the same was denied to India.Ironical)
then those taken as prisoners of war suffer the most .eg- Indian soldiers languishing in Pakistan jails as they were taken POW during 1971 war.Pakistan doesnt even accept their capture despite the fact their being i pakistan is common knowledge.
