Do environmental projects promote gender equity?

Policy makers first came to appreciate that women 'play an essential role in the management of natural resources, including soil, water, forests and energy...and often have a profound traditional and contemporary knowledge of the natural world around . Do you think environmental projects are promoting gender equity???

I am not sure about alll the environmental projects, but this statement does seem to be reflecting more of gender inequity.
Women would be so much associted with the natural resources, etc probably because it has been mostly thier task to manage resources for family (except the financial resources probably).
I know about one of the projects in a district of Rajasthan (India) where women's group was invloved in growing and preserving trees in the village. This ultimately seemed to have led to exclusion of some of those women from thier community as men were probably not too happy with the approach and the fact the those resources were in the hand of women. I had visited this village in December 2001 and that was almost 20 yrs after this project had been initiated ( as i was informed by the organisation involved)

In western culture, anyway, I know that most ecological based paradigms are female oriented. Starhawk, a well known eco feminist, promotes gender equity. By attempting to balance the polarity between the natural ecosystems and developed land and learning to repect natural eco systems you take a step towards gender equity.
The way we behave on an intrapersonal level with our suroundings is reflected through extension all the way to their paradigm of all interactions upto and including how we treat eachother.
