IMPEACHMENT OF GOVERNORS-NIGERIA
November 15, 2006 - 10:33 AM

Lately, impeachment of some Governors has been the "talk of the town" in Nigeria. This is shameful and has to be cautioned and stopped.
Lets take for instance a case whereby 5 law makers impeach a serving governor and all oher blunders going on here and there.Well, Nigeria should learn from her mistakes as in Bayelsa , Plateau adnd ekiti states(States of emergency) or i call it War zones.
Agreed we are a young democratic country but for how long?
The presidency, law makers , judiciary, and security officials have failed in thier responsibilities to mainatin Law and Order and i wish to state here that Nigeria should be declared as a Nation of Emergency and the president the law makers and even all politicians go.
The whole stuff should be overhauled and new people injected into the system of governance."Nigerians arise of Compatriots Nigerias call obey"
Long Live Nigeria!!!!!

I have commented on a similar topic before and seem not to be in agreement with your views.
Impeachments too are part of the democratic process and need to be understood as our democracy ages and matures. In my own opinion, it is healthy in our nascent democracy for all those Governors (or their deputies) who have been found guilty of misconduct (rightly or wrongly) to go through the test of the impeachment process.
Meanwhile, as all the drama unfolds, about the actual process that governs impeachment, the courts are always there to give the interpretation as to which conduct was right or wrong as provided for in the constitution.
While some law makers may have been too hasty in their decisions, others may also have been too naive while others probably went about it selfishly. All these situations are welcome, such that when all waring factions go to court, only then can we know the right procedure to follow to impeach or the reasons to establish before our law makers can establish an impeachment process.
I seem to be in agrement with learning by correcting mistakes, so if the law makers are not permitted to make mistakes (deliberately or mischieveously), how can we learn??
