"Al Jazeera's English-language television news channel is all set to reach 80 million homes worldwide.
At 1200 GMT on Wednesday, Al Jazeera English will begin broadcasting from the network's main studios in Doha, Qatar.
The first such international news and current affairs channel with its headquarters in the Middle East, it will far exceed the original launch target of 40 million cable and satellite households. "

I agree! Sad thing I don't think we'll get that over here anytime soon, but I think it's a great opportunity especially for people studying International Relations or Intl. Law. Don't waste it!

the new Aljazeera ROCKS
great job....really wonderful.
i have been waiting for it 2 open for months...i even have it on my favourite list.
i wake up and sleep on it.....
its what the western media needed...although sadly most of the west cant view it due to to the western goverment being control freaks and paranoid at the thought that their people might actually see whats REALLY happining in the world!!!
cuz the west is missing out on ALOT....Aljazeera really tells the picture as it is and MORE.
i guess by now u can call me a Al-Jazeera fan

I have been able to see Al Jazerra (albeit just for a second) in the US at a suburban Washington DC hotel, so it is available in the US (although I do not have acess to it at home). My question to everyone is "Why is Al Jazzera considered the real news?" I am ignorant on this because of my limited exposure to the channel. Is it possible that it too may be biased in its opnion, just like many other news outlets or is there some reason(s) that would prove that statement to be factual?

I have recently started reading: Al Jazeera by Hugh Miles.
http://www.amazon.com/Al-Jazeera-Hugh-Miles/dp/0349118078/
I highly recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about the network. The book will also give you an insight into many of the events that happened during the Afghanistan and Iraq war that the western media never reported.

I do not think that any of the participants on this discussion thread considered what is mentioned in bold above to be the actual case.
However, it might be of crucial necessity to have an objective viewpoint about Middle-Eastern issues to hear the same news from different perspectives...what do you think ?
Peace...
