Benefits of Swimming .

Swimming has always been a good source of bonding moments with family and friends. But is that what swimming is all about, just for fun? What you may not know is that even if you only go swimming because you enjoy it or because you want to have a good time with your colleagues and relatives, you are actually gaining several benefits of swimming that you don’t usually get from other forms of exercise. Even without realizing it, you are reaping some good things from swimming.
It is a great relaxing and healthy activity --- and in fact, there are people who do this as a form of exercise, others do this for stress buster, some do this for therapeutic reasons, and most people do this for pleasure and enjoyment. Whatever the reasons may be, one thing for sure is true to all, swimmers get so many benefits from swimming.
Some of the countless benefits of swimming are:
(1) shaping your body – providing a fitter and toner set of muscles,
(2) serving a cardiovascular workout – keeps a healthy heart and lungs
(3) strengthening pregnant women’s abdominal and shoulder areas – reduces the stress and stiffness because of carrying a baby,
(4) healing of bone and muscles injuries – therapeutic remedy
(5) less stressing – lower risk of injuries due to buoyancy, and allows more oxygen to flow for breathing regulation (5) improving blood circulation and blood pressure – keeps a good and balanced blood flow throughout the body,
(6) relaxing the mind – psychologically allows a refreshed mindset. There are still so many things that swimmers gain from doing regular swimming exercises, and they’ll not realize it but swimming has actually soothed their mind and body.
People who go and dip in the waters will actually enjoy several benefits of swimming --- physically, psychologically, emotionally, and socially. Physically, it gives a whole body conditioning, without giving any painful aftereffects of the exercises like strained muscles or overworked bones and joints or injuries. Psychologically, it gives the mind some moments of peace and calmness by just concentrating on the water and the strokes. Emotionally, it allows you to vent your anger, stress, or frustration by shouting underwater or punching and kicking the water, thus not hurting anyone. Socially, it serves as bonding times with family and friends or a time to meet new people.
It is indeed a fact that the benefits of swimming are innumerable and real, it depends on the person if he takes the chance to enjoy and experience these benefits.

I totally agree. I swam for almost seven years and I really miss having that to compete in such a relaxing manor.
It's really a stress buster and great physically. Hopefully I'll work up the nerve to join a swim team!

Yes there are many benefits to swimming and if you can swim in quite cold water, you have a very increased benefit to your health. Not only the cardiovascular work out but there is a sort of primordial boost to the system that very cold water provides. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

I absolutely love swimming, it is the one form of exercise I really was able to get into and it is now habit. I go 3 times a week everyweek, it doesn't strain your body like other forms of exercise and it is so calming.
Can't recommend it enough.

well truly swimming can do all of that, but for me personally its just for the fun of it. Some people might think it complicated and time consuming but just the feel of the water and its effect can heal the most narrow minded people. G-Ann

I have never met any "Narrow Minded". What do they look like so I can tell them to swim!!! I have met many arrow minded people who point and shoot themselves into a flurry or into a hurry.
Sparrows don't like to swim. They just fly are they narrow minded. If I could get the time to swim I would but I prefer to fly... come on... with my thoughts is what I meant... you should know that.
Smile and swim a Mile for me. Thanks.

Well narrow minded people believe that swimming is a waste of time and is only for recreational purposes. They think it serves no other purpose. I truly hope you use more down to earth lingos and rhymes in your poems, it makes them easier to grasp...

I completely agree, swimming is one of the best forms of exercise. It is apparently the only form of exercise that work all the muscle groups in the body. In any case it is fun and I love it!

Swimming, just like any form of cardio-vascular form of exercise is beneficial.
But I wouldn't say it's the best one.
The pros are the numerous psycho-physical benefits which aerobic workouts offer in general. It might also be better then running on a hard surface as it reduces pressure on joints. And there's the fact that it's one of those forms of aerobic exercise that you just can't do in a wrong way and hurt yourself. Rowing is a whole body exercise for example, and is sometimes considered more efficient than swimming (if calorie expenditure is the goal), but learning to do it properly can take a lot of time, and one can get serious injuries if proper form is not used.
Another downside of swimming, for hardcore swimmers who spend a lot of time in the pool, is the fact that human body adapts to the lower temperature of water and becomes more prone to store fat to protect the body from excess cold.

I think that swimming is such a great activity, and totally agree with all the health benefits you gain. For me, swimming is not only a excersize, but also such a fun way to spend my time.

Swimming greatly improves your breathing cycle, plus it's a great sport to exercise your muscles as it exercises all your body muscles rather than just a certain area.
