Poverty and the thrid world
March 1, 2010 - 10:51 AM

All over the news we are witnessing disasters in Haiti and Chili. The media wants us to believe that these are some of the biggest disasters of our times. That hundreds of thousands of people are dying, are homeless, battered and starved. Children are orphaned and so on and so forth. Lots of pain, lots of suffering images. How can one resist?

Truth be told, in my 37 years of existence, there has always been a deadly war in the middle east that has claimed millions of lives. There has always been a war in Sudan that has claimed 5,000, 000 lives in the past ten or so years. Every year there is a disaster somewhere on earth that kills hundreds of thousands of people. It is familiar news at this point. Natural disasters are old news.

The reason why these disasters seem to have such a horrific effect on these third world countries is because of poverty. Poorly built infrastructure that results from corrupt contractors and government officials. Third world countries are corrupt to the core.
Third world corruption is due to poor mentality. The concept that;

WHAT IS OURS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. WHAT IS THEIRS IS THE BEST. MY MONEY IS MINE. YOUR MONEY IS BETTER THAN MINE. I NEVER HAVE ENOUGH. THEIR MONEY IS THE ONLY SOURCE OF HELP. THEY NEED TO HELP US.

These concepts are where the true battle against poverty lie. Change these concepts in the minds of third world citizens and you may change poverty.

Lets face it, 80%, if not 90% + of the developed world’s natural resources come from dilapidated third world countries. So called poor countries.
Billions of billions of dollars are spent in Africa and the third world buying petroleum, wood, metal oxides, uranium, cocoa, diamonds, name it.

Where do they think the raw materials to make the stuff given to them as aid comes from?

The income from these sources goes into the pockets of corrupt government officials, dictators and corrupt contractors.

This is how it goes; Educate an African and you simply gave him/her the knowledge to exploit his fellow people. They will never give back to their communities. Make an African president and they will never want to relinquish power. That’s why there will never be democracy in Africa.

The problem needs to be attacked from the source. Their mentality needs to change. Self respect and love for the self and fellow citizens needs to be instilled. They believe they are worthless and their fellow citizens are worthless and incapable.

They need to be re wired to realize that they need to give back to their communities like folks in developed countrymen do. Not TAKE, TAKE, TAKE, TAKE. Oh poor us!

They have the education, they have the raw material, they need to take care of their own.

I once knew a judge who almost exterminated shoptlifting in his district. What he did was made the thieves stand in front of the store where they stole wearing a huge sign that read;

"I AM A THIEF AND I STOLE FROM THIS STORE"

Now, if we apply that to the African mentality things may change. Children immulate adults who in turn immulate their leaders.

The world needs to expose them for what they are. Take paul Biya for example. He has been stealing from the Cameroonian people for almost 28 years. Yet, the developed countries with the power to expose him to the rest of the world stand by him. Why? Because they are maybe just as bad and he slips them a litle "Something-something" on the side.

If the world stands up to expose these thieves the wrold may change. Africa alone is one of the biggest drains on the world economy.
