Not all people are alike!
I have a friend who is really clever and eager to learn new things, but our traditional method of reading-in-order-to-learn make him get scared and sick. He can't stand books (even rather thin ones ) at all, but can watch movies and memorize even peculiar details successfully (he learned English using this technique). Thus, if I wanted to teach him something I would just need to release a movie or at least clip for him, and he would cope with it better than me, person who is fond of reading.
So everyone has his/her own medication. Yeah?

So far the only way to educate oneself is through reading about or listening to the information.
There is no other way. Time might come when a brain transplant will solve the problem of spending time and effort on reading in order to know like in the movie Matrix by simply having a piece of memory containing the needed information installed in a brain allowing the person to know hitherto unknown things without making any delibarate effort to know things in a traditional way by reading.
This time I hope is not far because with the an ever-increasing amount and application of information reading tends to seem sometimes too slow and too time-wasteful not counting the eye-related problems that lot of reading might cause.
Till this invention is industriliazed, anyone who is concerned and/or willing to know things has to content him/herself by reading and/or listening, which isnt usually moe efficient.

The world is beyond our traditional way of reading. Students who use combination of audio/visual materials and traditional way of reading will perform better than those who depend on traditional way of reading.
I am not saying that there is individual difference but it is good to combine modern and traditional way of reading.
