While it is true that Denmark was very brave in stopping the deportation of its Jews, they were able to do it because there was enough public attention on Denmark to let them get away with it. If Germany defeated the Russians and repelled the Normandy Invasion, they would have rounded everyone up and killed them. That is not to take away from the unique bravery of the Danes, it is just that the Nazis were certainly a force that had to be eradicated by force.
Gandhi's methods work where either the government is democratic or if there are governments that can bring pressure on the offending nation. Al Quaeda believes that they are carring out the will of God. No world opinion or demonstrations will change that.
As far as the US fighting for oil, well...
I have yet to see a REAL movement to ban oil. Yes, there is a lot of lip service, but I do not see Greenpeace blockading oil refineries or protesting supertankers coming into port. What are we willing to trade in terms of lifestyle and mobility to eliminate the use of oil?
By the way, my guess is that Osama wants the US out of the middle east so he can get his hands on the oil and its revenues to use for Al Quaeda's purposes.

This woman is Pauline Hanson, founder and leader of the "One Nation" party - an extremely right-wing nationalist political movement.
They are cautious in their praise of foreign trade, they distrust foreign investment and they loathe foreign debt. But when asked what her party's solution to foreign debt was, the former fish-and-chip shop owner, Pauline Hanson revealed their solution is to "just print more money". [The Australian 19-6-98] So breathtakingly simple, really, that you have to wonder at the sheer stupidity of the rest of us for not thinking of it before. And this is just one of many examples of the genius of One Nation.
Their economic policies are written by people who have no idea of the effect of these sort of "changes" on the economy. Add to this their desire to eliminate foreign aid, and the endless racist comments which she has made ever since her Maiden Speech in Parliament, and you start to get an idea about what the party's all about.
Hrmm... perhaps I should tell you a bit about her funny speeches.
Her inaugural address in September 1996, in which she declared, "I am going to find out how many treaties we have signed with the UN, have them exposed and then call for their repudiation." While Pauline’s inaugural address was devoted mostly to exposing the injustices visited upon white people by Aborigines (a race of people normally declared to be oppressed by white Australians), she found room in the speech to have a go at Asians, too. "I believe we are in danger of being swamped by Asians. … They have their own culture and religion, form ghettos and do not assimilate. Of course, I will be called racist but, if I can invite whom I want into my home, then I should have the right to have a say in who comes into my country. A truly multicultural country can never be strong or united. The world is full of failed and tragic examples, ranging from Ireland to Bosnia to Africa and, closer to home, Papua New Guinea. America and
Great Britain are currently paying the price." Moreover, Asians’ flair for corruption puts even the Queensland police to shame - they are the reason extortion is “high in Queensland”. [The Australian 19-6-98]
Unfortunately, One Nation is a contributing factor to the lack of success the youth movement "Nation1" found in Australia. People mistook one for the other, and likened us with the Hitler Youth Movement unless we careful to make the distinction that we are nothing alike.
Fortunately, One Nation currently has no power in Parliament. Jubilant festivities reigned in ballot-counting headquarters almost three years ago at the last Australian Federal Election when Pauline Hanson lost in her electorate, and was unable to re-sit in parliament for a second term. This year, with One Nation launching a bid for Senate seats, I'm not so sure we'll be seeing the same festivities as it is much more likely One Nation will gain at least one candidate in the senate.
On the other hand, it will lead to many more comical debates and press releases against the One Nation party, making Australian Politics more fun for all of us
EDIT: GOD BLESS AUSTRALIA'S VOTING SYSTEM!
Had it not have been for Preferential Voting as opposed to "First Past the Post", Pauline Hanson would be in Parliament as we speak as she recieved the most first preference votes in Oxley, but lost after second preferences and beyond were counted.
EDIT: The One Nation Manifesto: Thoughts of Chairman Pauline
http://www.geocities.com/CollegePark/Campus/3331/articles/manifesto.html
Excellent look at Pauline Hansons' policies.
"Pauline made her political debut when she was elected to
Ipswich city council in April 1994, after campaigning against the new municipal library. She claimed that work on the library had been speeded up before the election to ensure that it was too far advanced to be halted by the incoming council. She asked whether it may be possible to fine the workers on the library building site for working too fast. [The Australian 26-6-98] Since her debut in in federal politics, Pauline has promised to abolish the $80 million arts funding, in order to pay for 2% loans to farmers. [Sunday Telegraph 21-6-98]"

i must thank brent for having the ability to write what he did.
people need to understand that hanson and one nation does not represent the majority of views of the australian people. and certainly not young people.
unfortunately, her opinions (strongly echo of national socialism policies of germany and other socialist countries in the past) are starting to appeal to the week-minded australians who watch too much tv and who ar only ever exposed to the negatives of the australian government (a fairly corrupt system).
pauline hanson tells people who are frightened of what they do not understand and do not wish to have to tolerate what they want to hear.
australian politics is in a fairly sad state when people start voting for her.
