Better searching

Hello everyone, I have a suggestion for how to make the site a little better. There should be a tool for searching for all posts made by a specific member if you decide you like their thinking, or maybe an "advanced search" like they have on Google and most other large sites. For example, someone recently requested to add me to their friends list and I would like to read some of his posts. The current system makes this difficult. Its not like this is a super crucial thing, but it would be convenient.

Good suggestion, as you know TIG is a free site and we all must agree that, they have been doing their best to give us easy access to the TIG community, as for your suggestion, i think it's a bit easy instead of the search thing, why not use the old way of viewing the members public profile, thereby having access to all his/her posts and affiliations.

If you go to a member's profile, under their profile picture you will find a module that says:
Members Content
# TIGblog entries
# Discussion Board posts
# Panorama submissions
# Global Gallery submissions
By clicking one of those link's you will be taken directly to a page that lists all of that member's content.
We are working on improving people's profiles to including more detailed list of the content they have posted to the TIG site. This improvement will not be ready for a while yet though.

I have noticed when searching for members in a specific country (Moldova, for instance) that there are many members listed who have not logged into TakingITGlobal since 2005 and even 2004. Maybe such persons should be purged? If they come back, they can always register again. What do you think?

Hmm sometimes you see two profiles that are the same person and you think perhaps they forgot the password to their old one and made a new one. I would love to be able to merge or delete one of them. Of course, you have to be sure they are the same person, which you can be pretty sure of when you actually know them!
It would be interesting to see the stats of active users compared to total users and then sort them by age, gender, geographic location and perhaps current events... no point really, just for fun. :P

Thought I had posted a reply here already... weird :S
Anyway, as for duplicate accounts, we regularly delete old user accounts when we notice two and merge them as much as possible but it gets difficult when both profiles contain content.
For members who have not logged in for a long time is a problem because if they have submitted content in the past, the work would no longer be attributed to them and the links would be broken. Also, there are a number of members who return after a while and they often appreciate the fact that their account is still there
