female condom - have u seen one before?

So I went for an HIV test at a VCT center... first it was hell finding a free counselor. The first day I tried, I went to 3 different VCTs and each did not have counselors available that day. So it took me another 2 weeks to psyke myself up again... this time i decided to wait the 3 hrs for a free slot....
I tested negative... it was an experience though, doing the counseling esp... made me realize i really don’t know enough about my partner....
anyway... there was a box of female condoms on the desk, and i asked for a demo... the condom was thick, like those condoms of long ago and just huge.... reminded me of the first time i saw a male condom... my jaw dropped at the size of it... ladies i'm sure u know what I mean…..
anyway, ladies, question, would you opt to use a female condom? Have you seen one? Used one?...

No, I can't say I've ever seen a female condom, let alone used one. I've heard of them, never spoken to anyone who's used them, and can only imagine how hard they would be to wear.
Have you ever tried wearing one? Did you take a sample from the office and test it out? I'm curious... Does anyone out there know if they're comfortable? I'd be willing to give them a try; after all, protection these days is so important.

There are many alternatives on the market in terms of contraception.
You may be interested in the following websites that I just Googled and found them to be fairly accurate for general reading.

I would like to prewarn people if they choose to visit the following Wikipedia page. There are images in there that may offend.

Well, i must say good topic...like that you have altleast set your sites on a female condom. If a poll was to be conducted for example in Uganda, i think many would go for the 'I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE BEFORE OR EVER USED IT'
That only gets to show each and every one how far this world has to go in making the HIV scouge history.
When i lay on my bed and think for a while, i want to believe that a lot has been achieved but when one get to think of how some of the basic issues are still being ignored, i pinch myself.
Ignorance about the female condom has gone a long way to making the female sex the more vulnerable to HIV.
Many of you will agree with me that most girls dont mind about female condoms. Many believe its the boy's responsibility to protected sex..So if the guy doesnt have one ready after foreplay, it will mean the end of both the two.Even if a female condom was available, i would bet if she would know how to use it.
Some advice to my sisters out their..It is not only a responsibility of your boyfriend to protected sex but yours as well.Take full responsibility by learning not only keeping one with you but also learning how to use it.And to the guys remember that your safety is your partner's as well. Not only should you endavour to carry atleast one with you but also go the extra mile in ensuring that she carries the female one as well.Besides there is no harm of owning two cars just in case one ever encouters a mechanical fault just before you set off for that ever long awaited wedding party.Thanx

I agree that it is important to get the message out there, but as with any medicine or drug, there are associated risks and varying degrees of effectiveness. People should be made aware of this and also how exactly these devices are to be used - for example, it should be emphasised that both male and female condoms should not be used at the same time. Please check above sources for reasons.

i have just seen it in books...its high time that both the partners should become aware of the methods of contraception and adopt to 1 which suits them best...when it comes to female condoms...they are similar to male condoms but are quite larger and are available in various sizes...the problem with them is that the size a woman may need has to be evaluated by a health nurse or a doctor...it has to be decided by a per vaginal examination. also even if it fits correctly there are chances of sperms getting through the margins.. so it is better to use a spermicide jellys concurrently on its superior surface so that even if any of the sperms try to get in they get destroyed.... and think of all these..'coz contraception is the need of the hour...it has to be practiced correctly and regularly for better results..
stay cool & healthy,
cheers & regards,

Hahahahahaha. this is interesting. I have seen not just one, i even distribute it in Nigeria as a social worker.
No one seem to have used it though. This is majorly because there are no educators to teach the effective and correct use of this product. Although i also hear it is used in countries where the incident of rape is rampant, women over there wear it along side their dressing, in case they meet a rape incident on their way. it has actually become a way of life for them.
