Teachers: what for?

Today is the international day for teachers. When we were a kid, we were excited to go to school. At school we met a person, the teacher, a person we loved and feared, the person we trusted and we listened to. He introduced us to basic academic routines, life and social skills.
Do you think that your teacher from primary school made a difference in your life? Do you think that a teacher helped you to be yourself and to enhance your potentials? Do you think that a teacher has broken your life?Should we celebrate teachers? Why?

In India teachers are considered very important.Current Indian Prime Minister and president started their careers as teachers. They help in getting first lessons.
In rural India teachers have assuemd special role.As usually they are the most educated person in the village ,their view is sought in important community mattres, they have helped in bringing down women and girl child related abuses. Many NGo's link their programmes in rural India with teachers due to their socail standing in the village.
