War...one week away?
March 5, 2003 - 07:03 AM

So, the Bush administration has finally told the truth and said it is committed to a war in Iraq - and nothing the people of the world say is going to stop him.

So where does that leave us? Is there anything the righteous few of us can do to ensure a peaceful and just existence for the people of Iraq? For anyone around the world?

Or are we all doomed once the Republican war machine sets its sights on something it sees as 'unfinished' business?

People forgot Vietnam too quickly.

People forgot The Persian Gulf too quickly.

People forgot everything too quickly.

So, what do we do?

Do we claim the streets as our own and shut down our nations as best we can, and ask for pressure for a peaceful means of change and a just existence for the Iraqi people?

In a democracy such as the United States, is there really room for a revolution of foreign policy?

Or is this world doomed to suffer under the U.S for all of eternity?

Here's something else:

Iraq with no nuclear weapons = Dangerous
N. Korea with nukes and perhaps exporting = Safe

Hmmm...

i think i'd like to add something here...

China supplied nukes to Pakistan.
When India and Pakistan conducted their nuclear tests, there were sanctions against both. (i still maintain, pak never conducted any tests. they simply bought the technology from China looong back and dont tell me americans didn't know about it.)I still remember all the global chaos going around and even the most unheard countries of the world giving a strong reaction and how unsafe they felt with the introduction of 2 new nuclear powers. I remember all the japanese people gathering in Pune (my city) what a traffic jam they caused on my way to college and their protests against india's nuclear tests. Next day the Newspaper was filled with their interviews telling horrible tales of hiroshima. (the mayor of hiroshima was in Pune).
i dont think any japanese people must have gone to pakistan. all this is possible only in india. Anyways, thats a different story.

and then now, pakistan sells their Nuclear technology to North Korea quite openly in return for northkorean missile technology.
No protests, no sanctions no nothing.

somehow, pakistan always gets away with it. (and with it, even north korea) i mean, they are the major reason for all the global nuclear unrest. They are the one's who have started all this transfer of nuclear technology by buying it from china in the first place and then selling it to north korea now. If at all any terrorist organisation grabs a nuclear weapon, it will be through pakistan. Pak provides asylum to all major islamist terrorist organisations. But... I dont see any action against pakistan.

The reason for this could be that americans need pak, as their base in Asia (they can keep a watch on India and the Middle East), as a peephole into russia, as a lauching pad for their war planes in afghan and most of all, an islamic nation on their side. Could talk a lot on that.

Plus if this war is really against terrorism, why is there no mention about Kashmir at all. Frankly speaking we fell betrayed, and also that our politicians are incompetent. Why couldn't we attack pakistan in a similar fashion, and believe me that if we do, the matter will end in a matter of days.
Okay, westners dont know much about Kashmir, how about Palestine and israel conflict. no mention to that either.
Some how US tries to keep away from sensetive issues which do not directly relate to them.

also, i dont see saddam doing anything so provocative lately. His people support him, the only people who want a regime change are americans who will do it no mattter what the world says.

What i see as the reason for this war is, America wants to grab the petrol reserves in Iraq. either that or it wants to shift american people's focus away from their falling economy and still be able to portray bush as a big national and international superhero. This isnt about terrorism at all.
