I think although a US citizen that the MDG goals will be met, but not within the specified time frame.
Yes, there is a lot of ingnorance and political issues to deal with and this takes a lot of time to implament.
I have started a project and some think it is a fly by night project but it is not.
Patients is a virtual
I have many members who are interested and will guide each and everyone on Building A Better Future within there community while helping others do the same.
As long as our youth and leaders at all levels stay persistant and focused on the prise The MDG's Will Be Met - Later than sooner.

It fine for all of us to try we that know let try and do our best to educate our brothers and sisters for the better future let forget about religious conflict and tribalisim let fight for our continent it really hurt my filling sometimes when ni sit and member the way the lord bless us with reaches but we are still suffring i really wonder why there is a lot of develop european countrys that dont have a half of our recourses but still they are far better from us.when i read a book about american economy i kow no matter how we turn it the goverments have to be blain.Let just pray for the lord to give us good leaders as he is master of all then we will come to light.GOD bless africa and the people of africa.

i agree with u completely in this matter,cause i really can see that there r a lot of sufferrings in every country in Africa ,so how can we possibly be able to handle the achievement of the MDGs ,i think that we the folks of africa need to gather and cope and try to raise awaerness and positive leaders actions cause it's lacking in these days

True guys! Osi.... Yvette. Thanks Umaru, am sad at the state of affairs in Abidjan. A true statesman is one who helps his neighbouring country by telling-off the wrong administrator; so tells me a Sudanese friend here who cries foul at the laxity in neighbouring states from intervening in Darfur crisis.
Back to MDGs and Africa; not only one road leads into a town. The paths are many but the travellers must be aware, made aware and remain aware. Not the government alone (but its contribution is immense), not the people alone (though they are the pillar). Neither the politicians nor the corporate world can alone influence the outcomes of the MDGs, especially in Africa. As part of the masses, the majority citizens, it is good that we pick up and start the initiatives with or without any support, do the much we can and encourage each other. Yvette, i beg you are no intruder, you are a source of vital info and encouragement. I would love to access the details of Dr. Youla's (hope i got it right) operations. I believe his approach could do wonders under good planning and management. Governments and people of influence must however still be implored upon to act as catalysts to achieving MDGs. They wield the authority and legislation as well as controlling the national resources. In other words a good will on the government side can double her citizen's efforts. But that not withstanding, we still have to shoulder the responsibility to achieving the MDGs.

Yes African Countries are going to achieve the MDGs. The thing that is taking us behind is that we are very blaming the west for taking away development from Africa.
That was done, but what are our political leaders doing to utilise the many natural resourses we have. The great land that is lying without development? Zambia has abundant water in rivers, but people do not have access to clean drinking. Livingstone has the Mighty Zambezi, but the town is busy experiencing loss of water.
Besides what governments, should do, we should also look at what the local community should do in the own locale. Do you mean to tell me that you have to wait for gobernment or a western donor to show you how to grow good crops? We need local action to the international problems that we have.
In my work as a journalist, I have been campaigning for people to practice sustainiable agriculture and also to revist community grain banks. There has been success in this area as people have come to appreciate and understand that it is within them that they have to find solutions.
Yes, we shall attain the MDGs, soon or later. Am very positive about this and am very much going to be a part of this success by campaigning.
What local actions should we take up so that we achieve what we have to achieve without being dependent wholly on the outside world?

Umaru, am equally concerned at the turn of events in Abidjan. Very worrying indeed but ihope Gbagbo's term is elongated based on his efforts at ensuring peace and stability? What say you? How is Guinea, Conakry? and my friend Kone?
Back to MDGs; It is true African states have more than political problems. That relying on our govts. and donors for all and sundry is not what we deserve, is what we have been talking against but that our efforts need start from grassroots is obvious.
By now i think all of us should be having a way forward, a role to play and focus about achieving or helping achieve one of the MDGs if not all. Big applause to Matongo for his involvement. For someone who is already involved in activities talking of achieving MDGs being possible, i find it so encouraging and motivating. I think even with my case here; we will achieve the MDGs regardless! BearySpecial thanks i hope together we shall build a better future by achieving the MDGs
I loud the info from Yvette about Micro-Credits in the rural areas. If only we could get more of Dr. Youla's process!

I think we have to be realistic with ourselves even if we believe we are going to meet the M.D.G by 2015 we are lying to ourselves. 'cos here in Nigeria i know there is extreme hunger & poverty People going naked on the streets, children hawking. I heard of a woman in Nigeria who because she was tired of telling her children "no food" decided to put sand on the fire and whenever her children asked her about food will say it is not yet ready until they get tired & go to sleep. Its really a pathetic issue. I still believe this problems would be reduced but not by 2015.

Ya it better to start naw a far jorney started with the first step,if we start naw we can reach there is no wested effort in life,all i have to say let know politician change our minds all of my brothers and sisters that have been use to take the gun to fight that cannot reach us to where we want to go let come as one and build a better africa.

Africa is a great civilization and has a confident bless countries each on its own. Because of this, African countries can aspire to become one of the leading nations of the world. But they will never realize this dream until it learns to appreciate the value of unity and being one in achieving the MDGs.
Like for example, in eradication of poverty, we all agree that it is the responsibility of the whole world which requires the cooperation of the developed countries, international organizations and even the private sector to oversee the needs of the impoverished and help them get out of it. But because of the African corrupt leaders who only think for themselves, only a few percentage of the intended humanitarian aids were being allocated, leaving their constituents more vulnerable to pain and sufferings. African countries government leaders should do more not less in providing their people of what they need until they become self-sufficient.
Another thing that I would like to point out is, African countries should also learn how to appreciate the value of a woman as the same of a man. History has shown that women do and can make a difference in raising awareness, improving lives and making things possible. It really makes economic, social and political sense to put power in the hands of a woman.
With all these being said, I still heartily believe that Africa is going to achieve the MDGs provided that they will unite as one, because only then that they will have the power to achieve it.

How good and pleasant it will be for God and mankind to see the unification of all Africa. As it has been said already and it should be done, Africa Must unite.
Our leaders are paying for corruption and our people are dying of hunger. Court cases are taking millions away from a nation in the name of justice. One is convicted to life imprisonment on one charge, and then he/she still has to be on trial on 20 other charges that will take away more millions. Who benefits from such? A few chosen benefit. What people need is food and how to have that food.
Why should we let the suffering continue suffering when we could lend a helping hand to a neighbour.
2015 is not far and yet not near. In seven years, we could really do something. How did Moses in Egypt manage to store food for seven years and his people did not go hungry?
If we believe we can do something, then definately we shall do something. We should leave the task to our political leaders only, as we well know that they have the capacity to fail us. Let's encourage one another. We cannot achieve all, but we surely can achieve the major ones.
The fight against AIDS has overshadowed all the other activities. If I want to do a project that does not concern HIV/AIDS, it will be a miracle to get funding. When I do something on HIV, funding is almost readily available. AIDS has become a business. It is a source of livelihood for many people, and am sure they wouldn't want to find a lasting solution to the problem.
We need to have all round help and assistance. There are a lot more things that are really affecting the people besides this disease.
Let's move forward and we shall attain something. Something that someone is going to appreciate for a longer time.

 Well, i think i agree with you .
But if heads of states of African countries make promises they can't furfill all in the name of (POLITRIX) as they would call it,if funds aloocated for certain projects, ends in peoples porcket, and other people also decieds to fight all because they want to come to power with others also sleep in their comfortable offcies without thinking about the GOALS at all, then the continent of Africa,should not think of achieving the MDG'S IN 2015.
One big problems we should also be looking at is the fact that heads draft very nice policies and also apending signatures to international ducuments they are not prepared to work with.

I would say that, Yes African Countries are going to Achieve the M.D.G Goals. But for this to become possible then there is a need for Unity, Love, Understanding and lastly the fear of God to be found in our Countries and I believe that we can achieve the M.D.G to the highest level, a saying this not because I hate my country, am an African myself and I really love my country and not my country alone but all othe countries but the true fact is that when our leader do not allow Love, Unity, Understanding and moreover the fear of God to rule their lives then we can't move ahead in life and even talk about achieve the M.D.G but when they is Love, Unity....Etc what can we attain in life.
So you believe that African Countries can achieve the M.D.G Goals.

I will not stop saying that we need to ACT than TALK,,,first of all can we all begin to make the MD Goals available in prints around our local communities, so that those who are not aware could have the idea.
Also let us begin trainings, and conduct workshops on possible ways to hit the MDGS come 2015.
