People: Wake Up!!!!!

Ok, I understand that the conflict in the Middle East is extremely imortant to world structure and the very fabrics of society. But hey, people in Africa are humans too, and as you're reading this BANG BANG BANG, a man, woman or child have been shot at this very moment: cause of death: a fire arm. In the very same minute this poor human had his/her body pierced with bullets, 15 more fire arms have been maunfactured in 98 countries around the world. Its is absoutely obvious that conflict occurs in the presence of such weapons. What are we doing about it?
Please, how we could we stay silent and still maintain a straight face?!?!?!

You know, if people took care of what happens out of their home, out of their country, all these mad things would not happen...
Do you think european or american people take care of the middle east situation more they care about people in africa? For the big majority, they don't. You can see on the media the middle east war but it is only to say : we show you the world "as it is", we are competent. It is only to increase the number of auditors and to look "serious".
The big part of people in "developped countries" take care of :
- what they will do saturday night,
- which new car they will buy,
- where would they go in holidays...things like that....it is a consumer society as we say.
They don't want to hear about
- these men, women, children, diing of hunger and cold in the street, near from them, because they haven't home...
- these people living the war everyday, trying to survive...
- these children mutilated by lost weapons...
- these children born with the HIV...
- these people dying of misery everywhere in the world...
If they, rich people of "developped countries", took care, all this would not exist...if they took care, these miserables (to refers to Victor Hugo's book) would not be so miserable...but would these consummers be able to consume as they do now? Probably not...
And it is probable that they would not want to leave their drug, the consommation, to help these poor people...the "others", these "differents from us", these 'undevelopped countries"
It is sad...it is the world we are living it...It is the world WE have to change! Because be sure they would not change it themselves.

Sarahtoumi, I couldn't have said it better myself. People in first-world countries just don't want to look at third-world problems. Lets start finding ways to make people pay attention on low-budget.
Poster-placing campaign: Design flyers or posters in several languages that says something like "by the time you finish reading this, x number of Sudanese will be murdered or raped" and then a graphic picture of a victim of African violence. Place them on TIG so any like-minded youth the world over can print and place them.
Web-cam: A live webcam with a view of how people are living in Darfur refugee camps right now might help wake people up. Not sure how practical it would be, but a window into life in true poverty should be shocking enough to get more people active.
Other ideas/suggestions? I'm being serious about this.

An idea, perhaps even a working one..
If someone compiles a list of conflict regions and some statistics about them, then, starts regularly updating and posting it on a TIG Blog or somewhere where everyone can reach it. Say, every week some enw details come on top of the basic statistical info on certain regions, some progress/regress reports, etc.
Images are a good thing to convey an idea of what is really behind words and numbers. I am sure there are several sites where one can find ready made video material on many conflict areas.
All you need is to get a volunteer ready to commit him/herself to this task. Discussions will automatically ensue once TIGers notice a regular inflow of information from conflict regions.

Thanks for all the responses Ive got, and I definately appreciate the suggesstions. I am currently in the process of preparing a 30 minute documentary on West Africa in general, and Sierra Leone in specific. It is about the arms trade and how people in SL still sufer from the trauma the 11 year war left behind. If you are into this stuff, you can throw in some suggesstions and ideas in the group ive started on TIG. CADWA - CONTROL ARMS DEALING IN WEST AFRICA. The link is on my profile page. So? Do you wanna get it started ?!?! Let me know BM

The answer is easy America is interested in the Middle East because they are protecting Israel's back and because of the oil.
Each country is looking for their gain so they dont burden themselves with something that wont profit them. Shame!

If anyone wants to raise awareness about Darfur, found some interesting things. Or at least things that are so horrifying I'm afraid to even place a pointer to them.
http://worldnews.about.com/od/sudan/ig/Darfur/Darfur---Child-Starving.htm
THIS IS WRONG! And multiply it by at least 111,759 other deaths from starvation and violence, and you get a sense of what is going on.
For statistics, cut and paste these address into your browser.
http://www.hicn.org/papers/wp15.pdf
(raw report on genocide statistics from April 2006)
http://www.stopgenocidenow.org/iact/resources.php
(also a useful place for people who want to do other things to help)
As for how many have died, it is difficult to say. Statistics vary all over the net and none of them are current. The most carefully calculated estimate is 111,759, although those figures are from January 2005. The second website says 400,000 and an average death rate of one every 2.83 minutes (as calculated by me from their data), but doesn't cite its sources. Hope its an exaggeration.
Hope this helps people who want to get the word out. Make a poster, send an email, tell a friend, anything at all. Politicians can ignore letter-writing campaigns and such, but they can't ignore an informed electorate.
If you are more interested in Sierra Leone, I highly recommend Butterfly's site.

i believe they only interested in the oil in the middle east that is why you find american presence in places like the middle east wasting young lives.i believe people are aware of what is happening but the people controlling the world power arre they really intersted in making the war stop.i would like to know why a country woud fight for almost twenty years without help coming and in the later years when a whole country is almost gone help comes.they trying to help reduce the world population or to be more precise africa's population by just watching people kill each other and starve to death.
