In Canada, what can we do to help stop violence in our communities?

In wake of the shooting at Dawson Community College in Montreal, the Creating Local Connections Canada team thought that it would be a good time to discuss what we as individuals, organizations and communities can do to help stop violent acts like the one in Montreal.
If you would like to keep abreast to important events in Canada, like this one you can join the CLC Current Events group at
http://groups.takingitglobal.org/CLCCEC.
We sincerely welcome all suggestions and feedback.
Sincerely,
The Creating Local Connections Team

Violence has become so common-place in our world......We are constantly fed a barrage of images of acts of incredible brutality and cruelty from beyond our own borders. I think that this almost paralyzes us, we see so much hate, how can we ever change that, or make a difference. The truth is, i believe it starts with us. Making choices about the language we use, the things we support and taking a zero-tolerance approach when dealing with violence are all huge steps when it comes to curbing the trend. I think what we forget is while we are seeing all the large scale violence outside our realm, it happens here, there, and everywhere; and we must admit that if we aren't working to stop it, we are contributing to the violence
