Israeli inves....

The Israeli president is being investigated for sexual harassement. The Israeli prime minister is being investigated for buying a flat in Jerusalem for over 1 million Dollars. An Israeli minister is being investigated for stealing a kiss from a female army conscript. The israeli army chief of staff, is being investigated for selling shares and stocks prior to the war in Lebanon. Indeed these are all scandals, but what should not go amiss, is the fact that these are scandals acknowledged as so, and the whole world got to know about them. More importantly, the Israeli legal system is investigating them. Does anything like that happens in the Arab world?; I don't mean the moral degradation bit, rather acknowledging scandals and investigating them?.

That's a really interesting question Hamzah... is there a contrast in the legal system between Israel and its neighbour states, for example?

I do wonder what happens when there are such scandals in Arab countries. I know we can't generalize to all such countries, so it'd be great for some TIG members in these countries to fill us in!!

First of all, the USA is main supporter and sponsor of -not only Israel- but also of those neighbor states.

Second, abouit the legal system of Israel, this link might give you a more deep look at the issue:

Indeed a very interesting question ....

i really couldnt find anything regarding the issue online.
thats one thing i have always doubted ...i.e the freedom of press in the Middle east.

it would be really enlightening if our fellow TIG members from the Middle east could share their views on this issue ...

cheers
Anu

ok no replies ????

well i found one scandal that was exposed recently in this context ....

]Dubai's ruler accused of slavery

The use of child camel jockeys is banned in Dubai
Dubai's ruler has been accused of enslaving thousands of young children for camel races in a class-action lawsuit filed in the US.
The action claims Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, his brother Hamdam and 500 others are responsible for abducting and trafficking the children.

It was filed on behalf of six unidentified parents and thousands of unnamed children.

There has been no comment on the action from the accused.

The children were said to be from Bangladesh, Sudan and southern Asia.

Once in Dubai, it is claimed that the children - some of them as young as two - were kept in poor conditions, starved (so as to keep their weight down), abused and forced to take part in a dangerous sport.

The case was filed in Miami where Sheikh Mohammed and his brother, Sheikh Hamdam bin Rashid al-Maktoum, have property.

The two, along with the other 500 defendants who the suit says are as yet unknown, face nine counts.

They include engaging in slavery, conspiring to engage in slavery, engaging in or facilitating child labour, battery, assault, infliction of emotional distress and wrongful death.

The use of child camel jockeys was banned in Dubai 13 years ago.

That's an interesting example, but in this case the lawsuit was filed in the US; I wonder if there is any possibility of such action in Dubai itself?

I agree on this issue, Israel ofcourse isnot alone when it comes to corruption. The issue of camel jockey's had been so rarely highlighted in the middle eastern media.

As a fact I know that in Saudi, writing the truth about scandals of big wigs in the royal family can be equal to death. However, I think situation is better in countries like Egypt and even Lebonan.

But i am wating for TIG members in these countries to enlightem me better!
