Your description is still not very precise as what you meant by "development work".
Anyhow, management skills needed in the modern world are usually quite universal, but which have to be adopted according to the domain and area of work.
Some of most important ones are the following:
- negotiation skills,
- leadership skills,
- team management skills,
- project designing and implementation skills,
- communication skills (verbal and non-verbal),
- presentation skills.
Thsi list is by no means complete nor exhaustive, and i didnt put the items in sense of their importance, which migth depend upon the domain and kind of management work one has to undertake.
Hope this helps,
H.
P.S. I am moving this thread to Work and Economics board where it suits more and where it will get more attention.

Thanks alot,
I thought i lost the thread!
Thank you also for the comments. I am trying to compile a report based on the experiences and expertise of young proffessionals who are in the dev sector or intend to do so, so that those who want to go into the field have first hand indepth knowledge and insight.
I thought the concept of dev work was a self-explanatory term, excuse me for the wrong assumption! What i mean by dev work is any work related to developing communities etc.
Because young people often dont have the required expereince i am hoping that this compilation will be of use to them and to myself.
I had a question; could you please elaborate on what for example negotiation skills should be based on? Where can we find more youth-friendly information on this? why is it relevant? how does one doe it? As you can see i am looking for detailed info, not always but mostly based on experiences....
thank you so much!
I hope to hear from you

Due to lack of time I will firsty point you out to some documents on the Internet.
And if you would like to further know my own experiences i could give you also some good ones.
"A negotiation is an interactive communication process that may take place whenever we want something from someone else or another person wants something from us."
http://library.findlaw.com/2001/Jan/1/130785.html
or the following one looks not bad also:
http://www.boulden.net/downloads/Fundamental_Negotiation_Skills.pdf#search=%22onwhatshouldnegotiationskillsbebased%22
or this one:
http://business.missouri.edu/336/default.aspx
Where can we find more youth-friendly information on this?
These above mentionned sites migth be a start for you.
I can find more if you want later on.
why is it relevant?
Negotiating is increasingly relevant and essential in the modern world because conditions of life and work become more and more competitive and need a proper negotiating to allow adoption of humans to these new conditions...
how does one doe it?
Well, you will find all that in the sites but just to give you a brief reponse, you have to keep in mind what you want and know in advance what the other party wants. Negotiation aims at achieveing a win-win situation where both oarties go back content, with mutual understanding and further will to colaborate.
Once you know what you want and what the other party wants, you also have to assert how much you can "give" in order not to "hurt" yourself.. You also might anticipate how much the other party is prepared to "give".
Having asserted all these four "notions" you then have to use your verbal and non-verbal skills to achieve what you want. One of most important things in negotiations is the start. It is the most crucial moment.. One has to start aiming high...
As you can see i am looking for detailed info, not always but mostly based on experiences....
Well read the above sites and if you would like to i could give you some stories of my personal experiences.
H.

I believe that young who are working or intend to work international copration(development work)most have:
First of all they should have a aim of creating a level field for youths to actualize there fullest portentials,be competitive nationally and globally, and to contribute as development of their country.
There objective should be:To create reliable and efficient networks through which youths all over the country can easily and rapidly acess vauable information that are benificial to them or by which agencies serving them can reach them.
To colaborate with other ministriest insitution and youth serving agencies in encuraging them and facilating the employment of youth in the private sector.
To guarentee healthy and usefull productive lives for youths through sensitization on health issues, recration and anty drug abuse activites.
To work with relivant agencies in the public and private sector in the fight against HIV/AID and to sensitise youths and their communites on the implication of discense for national development.
To enhance the empowerment of youths women by incoprating gender sensitivity into all aspects of the youth policy and programmes.
to mobilise youth of all ages to replace the culture of violence with a culture of peace dialouge and responsibl citizenry through intensive campaign valueeducation programmes and life skills training.
To rienvent the dignity of labour as an integral spect of youths culture and conciousness.
I belive if they hve this accesss and capability then they can make a better development.
