LOVE to read?!?! Intrested in starting a book club?

Hey guys,
I hope to get this one going for the long haul! I love to read all sorts of novels (suspense/horror are always a favourite!). Over the years i've read soo much materials from R.L Stine's Goosebumps, Nancy Drew series etc to hard core bio and Psych text books as wells as Greek and Roman mythology that i really feel my aim has definitely shifted from reading for the fun to reading for fun some meaningful material where i get to learn something valuable. ( I guess English and literature classes have done a great successful job at brain washing me into someone who is always searching for morals and values in everything that i read!)
so to the point....i'm always on the look out for such materials which could satisfy my hunger for meaningful materials. I was thinking if people could contribute to a list....where we just name and maybe write some description of our Favourite books/ poetry/ articles...etc...anything and everything!!!
To get it going...
1) To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee
2) Night by Elie Wiesel (great for insights into the life of holocaust victims)
3) Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence (deals with Old age and indepenence, pride etc)
4) Oedipus Rex by Sophocles (a dramatic Greek masterpiece..a short and grasping play!)
5) 12 Angry men (not sure of the author but is also a movie.....revolves around 12 jurors and thier verdict regarding a boy accused of kiling his father..)
These are just some that i recall from my list of all the things i have read....Feel free to add and give me suggestion as to wat i can read next! greatly appreciate ur help!

really interesting proposition.. so are you going to start the book club or you'll just join the kite? As i am also into books, i would like to join your club. i love the "to kill a mockingbird", although the rest on your list, i havent read yet. so here's my list, hope you'll like them:
=The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho - about a young mans search for his treasure and lots about life's teaching
=tuesdays with morrie - a true to life story written by morrie's former student. a very touching book.
=sacred origin of profound things - a really interesting book discussing the origin of certain religion, beliefs, traditions and a whole lot more.
=the giver - i forgot the who the author is, its about what-could-be our future. quite unique.

hi!..me again!
thanks for ur responses and interest so far.
I was thinking to keep this as casual as possible...i know that some "book clubs" decide upon reading a novel and then discuss etc, but i realize that many of us may not be able to do that simultaneously with other responsibilities. I for one do not have time to read for "fun" regularly....therefore i was just thinking to keeping this as a place where we can share thoughts about watever we have read or we can recommend to others......SPEAK YOUR MIND! and any other suggestion as to wat we can do...watever comes up is fine by me

I have read all of these books. They're all wonderfully written and the best part about them, for me, was that it was hard to put them down...
-Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert (the writing is absolutely amazing...tons of prose, plus it's a classic novel)
-Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (anyone with sisters will love the book)
-The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (if you like murder mystery type books, you'll enjoy this one)
-Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe (We had to read this for school and I fell in love with it. The writing is excellent and it's a really dramatic story with a tragic hero)
-Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare (once again, I was required to read the book for school but it's the classic tragic love story. Although Shakespeare may be a bit more difficult to read, it's worth it)

I've read The Da Vinci Code. I thought it was a really exciting book, quite the page-turner. I'm not a religious person, so I don't feel equipped to comment on the larger issues that it discussed, but I thought there were some interesting ideas. It seemed to me that there were lots of pro-female ideas, which I appreciated.

Lovely idea, 4m.
1. Coming of Age in the Milky Way by Timothy Ferris - (An excellent, accesible history of global astronomy, physics, and quantum field theory)
2. What happened to Lani Garver by Carol Plum-Ucci - (Fascinating novel, one that deals with the inner workings of group behaviours, psycological manifestations of physical trauma, and the dangers of androgeny. INCREDIBLE book.)
3. The Starship and the Canoe by Kenneth Brower - (Beaufitully written biography of world renowned physicist Freeman Dyson, and his naturalist son George)
4. The Mozart Season by Virginia Euwer Wolff - (A children's novel, but well worth the read - especially if you've ever experianced the intense and often unforgiving world of competitive violin)
Enjoy
