Have world leaders do enough to promote gender equality and enpower women as the goal 3 of the millennium development is saying?
I'm asking because i dont see any thing being done.

i think that promoting gender equality could be a long process. a lot of campaigns of governements aus international organisations, ngos... are working to sensitize people in rural areas to send their female children to school. the new generations of skilled women are supposed to take a great part in the developpment of their countries. we can also note that in many jobs advertisements women applications are strongly encouraged. there are little actions which are made and need to continue. the whole world is aware that empower woment can reduce poverty, improve health ....

There is saying that if you educate a man , he becomes only educated person but if you educate a women than whole family and society becomes educated.
We always talk about the gender equality and women empowerment but fact is that there is no any proper policies and plans which can effectively address the issues of women. Plans and policies are only in theoritical world not properly implemented in practical world.
Lastly, Economic development doesn't only count from the Urban part, rural women should get proper education and should equally participate in the development programs of the country.

Check this site for more info on goal 3.
Among other things, it gives a listing of sites where you can find more info, included but notlimited to all UN agencies dealing with that problem and other independent sources.
Among sources one points to a report called Progress of the World's Women 2005.
There is much more on the first site.

Well..nothing is being done. Take regions like south east asia and middle east. I doubt if the world leaders alone can bring about empowerment. The society collectively has to change. The mindsets of the people living in has to change. people have to let go off their double standards, like one rule at home and another rule for the world, should change. Education alone cannot bring abt change. Willingness to change has to come from within.

I would add that women empowerment is making some headway in Africa.
I noticed you are a male posting this question.
There is a lot of opportunities for women in Ghana one opportunitiy that I see on the rise is organizational activities.
Were women are educating and partnering with other women to improve education and global humanitarian releif on all levels.
I specificall know of one women who is building a super adobe dome in a eco village and showing youht and adults how to build these structures.
This is a good example of Women Empowerment.

I would say Yes. Although, it takes time but many efforts have been taken in Nepal. Now. Nepalese women are competiting with the male dominated government service and getting success. On the otherhand, not only leaders, women themselves should be motivated for their gender and equtiy concern. I have seen ample opportunities they have, but the depends on them how are they able to grab it. In Nepal, we have gender budgeting and monitoring system, which enhancing the involvement of women in out door activities as well as decision making.

Equility is another form of rascism, many people think that women are incapable of doing the things a man can do... but then again its been something that man has known to do ever since the beginning... it will probably take a couple more years because it is a change in democracy and is something new to what men know since the beginning of time... But Women should have equal rights, but should not complain after fight so hard to get it when they do..
