In my city (actually it's national) we have this relatively new but still really cool group called youth against war and racism. my school has a chapter and although most of the students are very anti-war but we can't m obilize them to organize w/ YAWR and actually act on their beliefs. why is this???
and more importantly, what do you do??

I think it's important to organize events that are fun for younger people. It depends on the age range, but in any age range you'll get a spectrum of interest in any given issue, from super interested to non-caring, with a lot of people being in the lukewarm category... to get these people to come out it's important to have an event that they can enjoy. Rather than just having a protest or something, why not organize a benefit concert, BBQ, etc., - some sort of fun outdoor event - or a party somewhere, for example?
Alternatively at the university level it gets a bit easier because then you can speak to people from a number of like-minded groups, and by worth of mouth and other forms of promotion, you can organize really powerful events/marches/demonstrations for a particular cause.
It definitely doesn't hurt to start getting people interested at the level of your school though. The first step is to have a core group that is really motivated and interested and to work together from there!

Good point with the fun activities suggestion. There was actually supposed to be a concert organized by YAWR last year at a local comm. college but it was canceled by the administration.
a party or the like is a great idea, thanks!
i'm also having success talking to people one-on-one.

Interactive games alway work.
and making a presentation on facts and figures also helps in making people aware of the actual scenario

LOL chi that sounds more like a party to me! Can I come?
Well how about organizing an event were you bring people from different cultures, races & religions and sell things in stalls and talk about their culture & country.
Something similar to that took place in one of Egypt's universities which I believe was a good idea to bring together people from different backgrounds.
