[Poll] Africa Youth Charter adopted
August 17, 2006 - 05:23 PM
|
|
The African Union Ministers of Youth holding their first session in Addis Ababa (28 May 2006) adopted the African Youth Charter and subsequently ratified by Heads of state at the AU Summit in Banjul, the Gambia (July 2006).
The adopted African Youth Charter highlights: Youth responsibilities and participation in its implementation; Education and skills development; Poverty eradication; Sustainable livelihoods and Youth employment; Health including SRH/HIV/AIDS and prevention of drugs and substance abuse; Peace and security; Youth and culture, Elimination of discrimination against girls and young women and Harmful traditional practices.
Africa Division of the United Nations Population Fund and the AU Liaison office supported the African Union Commission to undertake situational analysis of the status of youth in Africa, review institutional arrangements to facilitate integration, and develop the draft Africa Youth Charter through AU Youth, Experts and Ministerial meeting(s).
Where do we go from here?
Cheers,
Theophilus

There was a DFID Session that supported the Nigerian Youth contribution to the African Youth Charter. I presume we have started a chain of event that will culminate into a progressive momentum soon tahn we expected.
A new Nigerias is possible....a strong Africa is visible.
