Women Who Changed The World

For centuries women were taught that they were inferior. No one expected them to learn more than the basics, to accomplish anything on their own, or to express an intelligent opinion in any subject. But with changing times, we now see women who have left their mark on the world, changing the course of history and at other times influencing small but significant things in life. Therefore, I want to know whom do you consider as the most amazing women who helped shape the world's history?
For me, my most amazing women are Margaret Thatcher, Condoleezza Rice, Mother Teresa and Angelina Jolie. They are woman of extraordinary courage, with strength of conviction and intelligence who are making this world a better place.

Some of the most inspirational women to me are (in no particular order) Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, Angelina Joli and Margaret Mead.
They all have contributed in making a difference in humanity and some endured a whole lot while on their mission. Especially true in Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubmans’ circumstances.

Mother Theresa
Margaret Thatcher
Noreena Hertz
Queen Rania of Jordan
Oprah Winfrey (I must admit I don't like her show very much, but I think she has done a very good job educating women about all sorts of things)
I can't think of more women who changed the world right now although I am sure there are many more...

Cleopatra and Queen Elizabeth ...for ruling the game in a man's world
Marie Curie for being the first to venture into the 'rationa'l world
Simone De Beauvoir for saying out loud
"One is not born, but becomes a woman"
Jane Austen for writing her story ...the queen of irony "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife"
Andrea Dworkin for writing "Pornography and Civil Rights: A New Day for Women's Equality (1988). "
Aung San Suu Kyi for standing up for what she believes
Madonna for making patriarchal stereotypes dance on their head with her 'LIKE a virgin"
J K Rowling for creating Harry Potter
Sojourner Truth for " Ain't I a woman " " speech
And ain't I a woman?
Look at me
Look at my arm!
I have plowed and planted
and gathered into barns
and no man could head me. . .
And ain't I a woman?
I could work as much
and eat as much as a man--
when I could get to it--
and bear the lash as well
and ain't I a woman?
I have born 13 children
and seen most all sold into slavery
and when I cried out a mother's grief
none but Jesus heard me. . .
and ain't I a woman?
that little man in black there say
a woman can't have as much rights as a man
cause Christ wasn't a woman
Where did your Christ come from?
From God and a woman!
Man had nothing to do with him!
If the first woman God ever made
was strong enough to turn the world
upside down, all alone
together women ought to be able to turn it rightside up again.
Virginia Woolf for writing A Room of One's Own
Mahasweta Devi for raising her voice against the system
Kalpana Chawla for living our wildest dream to fly

For my part, I have to acknowledge the role that Ms. Ani DiFranco has played in my life, and the ways that I have come to see myself as a woman. Plus, my sisters, my friends, and all of the other strong, capable and intelligent woman around me who have bucked stereotypes and supported me in my attempts to.

angelina jolie???
I think it is amazing that Angelina Jolie is using her celebrity status to bring attention the adversities experienced by millions of people. The fact of the matter is that the majority of us live a lifestyle that does not reflect the hardships of almost 90% of the world's population. The lack of discomfort in our lives - whether regarding food, shelter, healthcare, etc - unfortunately does not sum up the experiences of millions of impoverish people. We are blessed and rather than keeping our good fortune, I hope that we would follow Jolie's example and empathize with less fortunate people and turn our empathy into action which is the most important part.

Yes to Great Mothers.
"Elizabeth Davis" is one of the writers who changed my world. She wrote "The First Sex", which showed the relationship of male and female before patriarchy.

Harriet Tubman
Nkosazana Zuma (Foreign minister of South Africa) - although not very popula especialy in her health ministry days, I believe she is doing an extraordinary job and is really underrated and underappreciated.
Cate Blanchet, Judi Dench, Meryl Streep, Anette Bening for the incredible class they bring to their work and profession.
Wangari Maathai
so many more warrior women... will post again when i remember.
peace to you all
