Zapatista- Subcomandante Marcos

Subcomandante Marcos is a very well known figure for the EZLN Zapatista community located in Mexico.
I was wondering and hoping to discuss Subcomandante Marcos in this thread. Perhaps share a few words, what you think about his actions and work.
Do you believe he, along with the entire Zapatista, are doing an effective job?
Do you see this man as an important role model for independent thought, or perhaps just another South American revolutionary figurehead?
Let me know what you think...

Sure. The zapatistas are making a difference in their communities, specially when they decide their own government structure and they act like a comunity. Culture and development thats the answer.
I think that was an error to still thinking that Marcos is the soul of the movement. He is only the speaker ( a good one..) the movement is strong cause they took their decitions together.

I agree.
I think that people see him as the soul because with his mask and clothing he is almost like a Zapatista Icon; This holy ghost fighting for the indigenous poeple of Chiapas.
I can only hope that Evo Morales will successfuly continuem to inspire the idigenous in Bolivia, and set them up in a better place in the Bolivian politics.
gracias para la respuesta.

You should read a writer from 1880`s called Mariategui. He writes about the culture and indigenous. hes very good and very actual (although he writes everything in 1800..).
