1 billion naira allocated to youth in nigeria as part of the MDGs/debt relief gains

Dear all,
The Nigerian Government has allocated about a billion naira from the gains of debt reiief for youth development projects.
The government as part of the agreement on the debt relief deal, agreed to commit a large percentage of the funds to achieving the Millenium development goals in Nigeria.
The youth ministry has responded by saying 50% of the amount will be spent on youth in agriculture projects while the rest will be spent on capacity building for youth leaders and youth development officers.
A roundtable discussion for youth leaders to meet with the president on how the money can be judiciously utilised held in Abuja on June 19, 2006.
Another meeting has been fixed to hold on July 29 2006.
Please put pressure on our youth leaders to ensure that they provide the necessary selfless advise to the government.
Thanks

Dear All,
You can simply check with the Director of Youth at the Federal Ministry of intergovernmentla affairas, youth development and special duties, OR ask any Youth council representative in your domain/state.
It was also in the news a couple of days back.
I will keep you posted on more details.
Cheers

Yeah, thats very interesting and i do hope its really an indication of better things to be done. If its true then its now left to us. Youths. You know we are Nigerian and what happens in our public sector. Lets pray that this time its its for a change. Let each one not take his share as its the normal ritual.

It is good news to have all of these funds for Youth development but can one vouch for the judicious use of the money? Can we see accountability and fair play come into play? Are the young people which these funds are mearnt for allowed to decide on what and how the funds should be spent? Are people within the age bracket of young people representing us? Are there no self interests? These are salient points to ponder on as we run this race of lifting the helpless out of poverty and making our world a place of equal opportunities for all.
Cheers,
Theophilus
