I suppose that "The Trial" by Franz Kafka doesn't make [you] think or act, it makes [you]
guess and get puzzled.

Kind of provoking about the human race : les particules elementaires - Michel Houellebecq , which
has been made as a movie , this year, in Germany.
1984 and Animal farm, from George Orwell were kinda great too. He shows us some flaws of society
across time, in a really interesting way.
More to come..

Dear Augustas!
IMHO, I didn't say that Franz Kafka was not a genius writer (it's a rare thing when a person writes
as if he turned to an insect - great story!!!), but I said that such books can hardly make act or
think. They are a kind of shock that makes re-think! Thus, there are thoughts-provoking books and
thoughts-shocking books.

Right now, three writers come into my mind - Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Albert Camus and Kurt
Vonnegut.

i really love to read but i must confess i must really overwhelmed by the titles of the books some of you guys have read
due to them being available to you. i believe the written word has the power to make you think and
act. i think every reader must be held accountable for every word he reads.
the next time you are about to open your next book think wisely or else you'll act rashly

Well, I am a big reader - both fiction and non-fiction. But I think I will stick with the first
book that had a powerful impact on me. When I was about 13 I read Alex Haley's "Roots"
and it's been one of my favourite books ever since. It taught me a lot, at an impressionable time
in my life, about basic human rights and dignity. Left a powerful impression that I have never
forgotten

One of my most favorite books that I have read in recent years is The Kite Runner. It is
such a beautifully written book with just the right amount of description and is most definitely a
story that captivates you from the moment that you open the book. I think I read it in one sitting!
Definitely check it out!
Another one of my favorites are:
-Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
and for fun...The Devil Wears Prada is fantastic!

The new Clinton book is fabulous!
Also, Naomi Klein of 'No Logo' fame has a brand-new book out.
Titles as below. Enjoy!
KLEIN - 'The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism'
CLINTON - 'How Each of Us Can Change the World'...

I am likely to be caught with a Grisham. his style is just amazing. He tailors his stories with
supense, trills and wonderful humour.
But my main inspirational author, as an writer is Chenua Achebe. He is one writer that is simply out
of this world.
I have read so many books that I have lost count. But let me see the ones that actully made me think
and act:
Things Fall Apart-Achebe
No Longer At Ease- Achebe
Arrow of God- Achebe
The Pelican Brief-Grisham
The RainMaker-
The Partner-
the Firm
THe Last Juror
The chamber
The Testament
The summons
The Breathren
A painted House
The client
The Metres circle-Robert Ludlum
The Prizi Family- Richard condom...
they are so many I cant even begin to recall all. But if you are interested in fiction and have not
read a Grisham before, try one. He is simply mesmerising.
