Books... oh wonderful books.
The title does say make you 'think' or 'act'. There are so many, I don't like reading plotless, droning romance novels, so most of my books are of the 'thinking' variety.
But the biggest impact a book, or rather, a series of books have made to my life is the Harry Potter Books.
I know it's all JK Rowling speaking, but the words that come out of Albus Dumbledore's mouth are gold. It has thought me so much, it has broadened my life, it has given me life-long friends, it has spurned my writing career. So if there ever was a pedestal, these books would go on it.
Other notable ones include (but are not limited to):
- Nelson Mandela's Autobiography
- His Dark Materials Trilogy
- Da Vinci Code/ Digital Fortress /Angels & Demons
- Daughter of Fortune

Just seeing all these people writing about books makes me so happy! And I'd like to thank everyone for sharing because now I've got a huge list of books I need to read!
Some of my personal favourites are:
1. The Fountainhead - Ayn Rand
2. The Handmaid's Tale - Margaret Atwood (whose poetry changed my life - especially 'The Moment')
3. Life of Pi - Yann Martel
4. Coming Through Slaughter - Michael Ondaatje
5. The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
6. A Short History of Nearly Everything - Bill Bryson (oh, if only this had been a school text when I was at school - I would have definitely done science!)
7. The Little Prince - Antoine de Saint Exupery
8. The Black Widower's Club - Isaac Asimov
9. The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
10. Poetry by Pablo Neruda.
I'll end it there, that list is getting too long! Haha

I think the book that everyone forgets about, but has more truth and wisdom intertwined than any book at Chapter's could offer, also the biggest selling book of all time, is the bible. It has amazing storylines, plots, allegory, metaphor, and themes which you just can find in any other piece of literature. It's an amazing work by an amazing author and I think people need to give it the credit it deserves. Whether you believe in God or not, you should not be afraid to pick up this book for fear it's trying to convert you or something. My point is the book is filled with knowledge, great grammatical structure, prose, verse, fiction, you can find it all in there and its a great read for a great price.

My all-time favorite book that certainly made me act was Feed, by M.T. Anderson. I also love classic dystopian sci-fi, and the must-reads are:
-Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury
-1984, by George Orwell
-Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley

I love to read! Ilike every thing from horror to comedy and non-fiction. One of the books that have made me think the most is MItch Albom's; The Five People You Meet in Heaven. It really made me think about how each of us as individuals effect the people around us and how we effect each other as a group. It made me realise that we can't spend every second of our lives regretting the desicions we made when we will never be able to change them. "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" is one of my all-time favorite books. It has an important message that is not burried under confusing pointless metaphors. Don't get me wrong, I love being able to think about things until my brain hurts, I really do. I also love the moment of triumph when I finally realise something that was in front of me the whole time, but it's nice when once in a while every thing is laid out in front of you and the only thing you really have to think about is how accuurate the book is about EVERYTHING!

I'm writing a book and doing a video documentary on the subject of "The Conversation" that everyone with HIV has when they disclose their HIV status. I'm looking for people from every race, age, nationality, and background; including those that are HIV negative to complete a questionnaire for submission in the book.
There are several ways you can help us with the project:
Promote our project on your website, Blog, Message Board, etc. Our website - www.theHIVconversation.com
Inform your clients, if you're an ASO, of the project and ask them to complete a questionnaire. You can obtain supporting materials from the ASO page on our website.
Link to us. We will gladly send you all the information you need for a link.
Allow us to link to you. You'll need to send us a graphic and any verbiage you would like used.
Help us with the video project. We are currently looking for people to do individual videos to be published on our Youtube channel - http://www.youtube.com/user/TheHIVConversation And, you might be able to help us with funding or other things as we work to complete our feature length documentary.
On the website you can learn more about the book, the author, who benefits, read stories of others who have already become a part of the project, and obtain a Questionnaire.

I'm with you, I do prefer books that make me think in another context. One such book was "The Celestine Prophecy", it's not about HIV but it has provided insights that help me with my holistic treatment aspects, such as enjoying the beauty around you, connecting with people and respecting their person and seeking not to change them, but accept them.

I read a lot of books and they helped me over the years.
My problem is that, I can't easily recall their titles and writers off-head but, I can always give you the very details of all.
These are what I look out for; to get some knowledge, to entertain myself and to challenge myself.
I like any book interesting.

for me, fictions have to be really 'catchy' to be in my hands. if i lost the plot at some point, i never touch it again!!* .. but again, i have read some books more than twice!
auto/biographies, spiritual and historical books top my list of favs. these definitely make me think.. and act!
what i believe - every book we read is a phase of learning.. with a book, we go to places we've never seen or been to before, experience emotions never felt before.. it's just amazing how those words touch us.
currently reading A Heart As Wide As The World.. wonderful..
