Accessible Ontario..

What will it take for politicians to realize that accessibility is an important issue that needs to be talked about?
While reading a local newspaper today I was appalled by comments made by local politicians that do not see a need to make public facilities accessible. They see it as a waste of money and an inconvenience.
In response, my clients (who have various disabilities) and I wrote a letter to the editor inviting them to live a day in the life of a person with a disability.
I would love to see them try to walk stairs in a wheelchair, bank at countertops that are a foot taller than them and fit through doorways that are way too small for wheelchairs. And that is just dealing with a physical disability. Lets not forget about those who have difficulties communicating, vision problems etc..
I would hope that in the future we all would realize that people with disabilities have an equal right to public facilities. If you encounter somebody who is uneducated on the matter... invite them to live a day in the life of somebody with a disability so they realize the challenges these people incur on a daily basis.
