AFRICA - IS THERE ANY HOPE
June 14, 2006 - 06:16 AM

Hie guys
If you are watching with me for all the past games that played African Teams it was a loss to the Africans. Is there any hope that one of these teams will make it to the next round. Ghana lost, Cot'devour lost, Togo lost, Angola lost and only a door of hope is maybe on Tunisia. Can they break the stigma, lets wait and see.
Whats your comments on African Football. Where are we going wrong. Is it the coaches, players, managers, governments or its something else. Most of our players play in Euorpean clubs what is it?????

It is not a matter of where we are going wrong because i dont think we are doing anything wrong but we are just not yet ready for football at that level. Iam not saying we are useless but some of our talent has just not been realised yet due to lack of proper training whilist we are young kids and lack of funding.
The thing with African parents is some of them dont even encourage their kids to focus on sport. And besides why would i want to be a footballer when i grow up when i could be an engineer and earn way more. We just have to admit we are not good enough.
How can we focus on football when we have hunger, war, famine and Aids of which all these will take priority where funding is concerned.

There are many African nations that have proved that they can beat the best international sides -- Cameroon, Nigeria, and Senegal come to mind immediately.
Its not that African nations can't compete at the highest level, because they can. But during this year's competition in Germany, it should be noted that Ghana and Ivory Coast were playing tough opponents in their opening matches, and Togo has their own problems that have been preventing them from focusing on soccer -- absence of pay, absence of coach, etc...
Tunisia is the only African nation with previous World Cup experience, and although it would have been nice to see Angola get some colonial retribution by beating Portugal, they are also a tough opponent.
This year's World Cup should have rightfully been hosted by South Africa, but politics prevented that from happening.
FIFA is the world governing body of football and is Eurocentric both politically and socially.
Many domestic soccer associations in Africa are corrupt and suffer from mismanagement and other issues that prevent immediate successess.
All things considered, soccer in Africa seems to be a reflection of Africa as a continent. The most powerful continent in terms of potential.
But of course as any person of African heritage knows, hope is all that there is.

I dont think its a matter of where are we going its a matter of how far can we go and as you seem to know your football it is not very far.
Personally iam not that much into the game though i watch one or two games, i was watching Netherlands play Ivory Coast today and again Africa was walloped 2-1
To be honest Africa we aint good enough and we need more time but i beleive we are headed in the right direction

there is hope !!!!
Ghana won 2:0 against Czech Republic ....
In their current form they are better than England who are not so good with technique.
Hope Ghana continues to surprise all the giants in the football arena !

it's good to see that the Ghanian team made it out of the group stage but i think that the african teams are not concentrating on winning the World Cup but are worried about impressing scouts and teams from Europe so they can get that big team contract after the WC. I heard one of the strikers for the Angolan team say that was his objective and that if they came out with a win then even better but he wants the big contract. i am not saying that wanting to get paid for what u do is a bad thing but this objective won't bring a WC trophy to the African continent this time around but i do hope that before the Lord calls me that i see an african team holding up the trophy to the skies.

There is every hope for the African nations in future world cups. They have some excellent players that are well trained and benefit from European clubs. Countries such as France giving citizenship to Africa's best players and then getting them to play for France is a problem!
Otherwise, the lack of funding and talent scouts in Africa is a problem. Things are changing though. European clubs are sending more talent scouts to African clubs to get good players very cheap and then train them to become famous excellent players who return to play for their African nations. Think of Drogba for example!
HAVE EVERY HOPE!

There is definitely hope!
Because in fact, Africa won the World Cup in Germany:
The team from Mathare Youth Sports Association in Kenya won the streetfootballworld festival 06 which took place in Berlin from 2nd to 8th July! And who ended up in second place: South Africa!
So yes, I see a lot of hope for African teams, especially with the next World Cup in Africa itself.
Keep the spirit up and keep on playing!
