Emo is someone who is emotional.
But now everyone just makes it ..someone who slits their wrists, someone who dresses in black, someone who is quite antisocial and someone who is depressed.
Depressed people are often called emo but somehow people expect them to dress in black and slit their wrists as well.
Sterotypes suck
I hate that term emo because everyone is emontional. whether you hide it or not , there is a part of you that wants to hide away and cry so people using that term is just hypocricital.

I believe the term originated as a music genre.

Emo -
As has been said, 'emo' usually represents 'emotional' -- and started out as a music genre, or somesuch.
It is now rather prevalent as a pop-culture movement within North America, or at least within my lovely little bubble of Saskatchewanian ignorance.
Fluoxetine (Prozac) is everywhere. Emo is everywhere.
Why? Why is the world mad?
Emo = wrist slitting? Why do people cut themselves? Because they feel unable to express the emotions they feel.
I'd say -- they're stressed. The world is stressed.
We're stressed because we are forced to change, but we refuse to acknowledge it. We try to maintain a static facade while the world spins beneath us.
Emo is simply the effect of conservative-capitalist ignorance. We're told that we live in the greatest society the earth has ever seen. We pretend to be perfect.
We're not perfect - emo is what happens when you know the world isn't perfect, but are continously exposed to people who say/pretend it is.

Now you've mentioned Prozac: how do you guys feel about Tom Cruise's comments on the use of anti-depressants...??
Personally I think the guy needs a shrink himself and he should really mind his own business...

personally i dont think there is anything wrong with taking anti-depressants...yes its another drug, but so is advil, tynenol, etc....if you dont abuse it...then why shouldnt you use it? What i mean to say is that...people shoudnt be banned against using/doing something that may help them...unless ofcourse they are taking it for advantage

Interesting... Can you actually abuse anti-depressants? I know people take ADD medication as an energizer when studying for exams. But what are the effects of taking antidepressants when you don't need them??

feeling relaxed would be one result.
when i think emo i dont think of dressing in all black, wrist slitting or goth. i think of "scene" kids that i see at shows. and the new wave of "emo" music that usually involved a lot of screaming.
