Clothing trend..Art Style

New Style come in an out everyday...Ecko,Roca Wear are just some of the popular brands, but have you guys thought of the price? I myself like to wear these brands..but I feel that prices are a little bit high. The Tracy Macgardy shoe was almost 200$ when it came out . 200$ FOR A SHOE?! It's actually 40$ worth of the shoe and the rest goes to companie profit and the actual player himself. Then there is the commercial and everything. These prices are high but the styles look good. This is a problem towards parents who have to pay for them. What do you think?

Hey Vincent,

Really good question! I think that we need to think about what we buy critically. Where did it come from? Who made it? Who profits? Where does it go after we wear it? What is it made out of? A lot of the times clothing is made out of toxic materials (like plastic) and is made by people who are paid poorly and have little rights in their workplace. I think it's important to be aware of the brands that you are consuming and why you like them. For example I like American Apparel's clothes, but right now the owner is involved in a lawsuit for sexually harassing his employees. While the company's marketing is sweat-shop free, if he is sexually harassing the women who work for him I do not want to put my money in his pocket.

Personally I like buying used clothes. I think that it's good because you are saving the earth, as well they cost less. You can go to Buy the Pound out in Scarborough and pick up a pound of cool clothes for $2. My friends and I take the bus out there to get stuff. I've found really nice stuff there, even some name brands! If you are a Macklin student it is not too far away from there. Another great place to pick up conscious clothes is the Freedom Clothing Collective. You can check out their stuff on their website (click on the word to open the page). I love Freedom because they are independent designers using recycled materials. They are kind of like preloved (click me), but a bit more reasonably priced.

you guys should seriously consider getting second hand clothes from markets and thrift stores... you get great stuff for dirt cheap... you get all the amazing retro pieces!!! and most importantly you don't end up supporting capitalist pigs who profit from child labor or ridiculous modern slavery...
