Unfortunately, you need to realise that what you love is a lie. America doesn't really exist as some may think it does. I'm not trying to sound like a conspiriacy theorist here, (and trust me I'm not) but the lives we live today are merely products of a corporate scheme.

Of course there was no provocation. Bush has been planning this war for years, whether we would be provoked or not. The reason Bush won't back down from war is because it's all part of his master plan for global domination. (okay, I really do sound like a conspiriacy theorist!) Both the current and previous Bush administrations have been seeking to take control of the Gulf area for a long time now, and unfortunately, they got got lucky and their justification for war came along. Did you notice that Bush was the one who brought up the whole weapons inspections situation again? It wasn't a problem during the Clinton era. But Bush made it a problem.

I'm just a teenager too, but if others aren't willing to listen, we need to stand up for ourselves. We need to show others where they're wrong, and if we're the ones who need to lead society in a revolution, so be it.

The so called "war on terrorism", actually, is not a fight against evil. It does not exist. No one can ever justify the actions of the White House and the Bush administration. U.S. is a powerful country but these powers are being used for world domination, not for the survival of man kind. Let us consider that Iraq possesses weapons of mass destruction, which has not been proved to the UN, and U.S. is trying to disarm Iraq by USING weapons of mass destruction. What I think U.S. should do is that it should try to disarm itself first and then pin-point other countries which need to be disarmed. The Nuclear and Biological weapons possessed by the U.S. can destroy the world in no time, but, i hope that Bush is not is favour of that.
For past many years, U.S. administration has been vetoing the resolutions put forward by the UN, eventhough approved by the other four permanent UN members. This makes it clear that the Bush administration is not in the favour of world peace. All it is concerened about is the constant and cheap supply of "OIL".

Precisely! Bush is a fool, and when the whole world turns on him because of his stupidity WE the citizens of America will pay, not Bush because he will just go hide in one of those stupid places to protect the president. Almost every American is so wrapped up in thinking that they are acting for the good of the world that they don't stop to think what will happen if we bring out the WMD on Iraq, because thousands of innocents will be killed, and America will lose any shred of respect that the other world countries have for us.
I love the part of America that is now dead, the part that used to stand for ourselves and actually think about the needs of the world, unfortunately you are right that part doesn't exist anymore. I, and some of my friends (like Lesleydoux) would love to be able to do something, can you think of any ideas that do not involve a Civil War type of revolution?

Yeah the problem is that as Americans, we very rarely see the truth. Oftentimes the details and complexities are hidden away from us by the government, or sometimes we just fail to see them. From square one, we have been taught to put all of our faith and trust in the gov't, and that's where we go wrong. This false sense of security allows us to build up lives of lies (although we don't always know they are lies) and thus we build a shaky habitat upon an already unsteady foundation... And so we take pride in the false sense of securtiy that we are given. I believe it's time we stop accepting this image, and begin to demand the truth. Everyone needs to understand the real reasons for why we are going to war, so then everyone will see just why it is so unjust. If everyone can learn to see the truth, they wouldn't be clamoring for war, they would understand just why we need peace.

That's a lot of 'ifs', no? Well, we can each do our part to try and help others in seeing where the real truths lie. Revolution is difficult to bring about, but it is essential.

However, violence will not be essential. You're right, Catherine, we cannot allow this to become anything like the Civil War. Our aim is not to bring about destruction. We are going to need to change things in more than just a way of protest, because unfortunately it hasn't worked enough in the past for us to be able to count on it today. I've been thinking about possible actions that can be taken, and I'll be glad to let you know if I can come up with something do-able. I encourage all of you as well to try and come up with solutions. A way for us all to work together in solving this problem. Ultimately what we need to do is to somehow spread the truth and expose the government for what it really is. Personally, I feel that this government needs to be overthrown, as impossible as it may seem. Things can't go on like this. Sooner or later, these power-hungry authoritarian figures are going to need to be stopped, and I'm hoping it will be sooner.

Absolutely, you bring up some excellent points here. Everyone else seems to notice the hypocrisy of the Americans, except for the American citizens themselves. hmmm, funny how that works. We're all so scared about Iraq having WMD's, when what's funny is that WE'RE the ones who own them, just as Nabeel pointed out. If Iraq actually does own weapons of mass destruction, that would be because the previous Bush administration sold it to them! WE are the ones at fault here. US. THE AMERICANS. IT'S OUR FAULT. Don't go punishing the Iraqis for our stupidity. They don't deserve to die. None of the so-called 'terrorists' do. Thanks to Bush, the word terrorist now means nothing. We're calling a bunch of innocent people terrorists. And we're murdering them by the thousands just because Bush calls them 'terrorists'. NOW who are the terrorists??

The US will do anything it can to stay in power. Because all Bush is after is oil and money. He doesn't care about anyone's safety but his own. He doesn't care who dies and who doesn't as long as the outcome wil benefit him.

You're right Nabeel, the UN isn't doing its job, but then the major powers in the UN are all concentrating on Iraq because they are probably so damn scared that the US will turn on them if they don't follow us. Yes, we do need to concentrate on countries like India who need help to escape the brutal governments that they are forced to live under. If we did that then we could turn our eyes towards Iraq, but only to help (as peacefully as possible) the people overthrow the government and then we should let them replace the government the way that they want to. Especially since, if you notice, any government or person that we have tried to "help" has turned against us.

Unfortunately it would be incredibly difficult to overturn the American government Lauren because there are still so many people who believe in the lies that they live.

hi guys, i'm new to TIG so i thought i'd put in my two cents...
first of all, you can't blame the US for the UN's faults - it has been transparent in the places it is needed most... like Kashmir. The way I see the actions pre-war in Iraq, its like this. Suppose you know of a guy gown the road who is a maniac, beats his kids, and probably has a whole stack of guns lying about in his house. You've got a right to be scared. Now suppose that guy runs a country, not beating his kids but killing dissenters, not guns but biological and chemical weapons. Well, in this case, the UN (the police, welfare service in one) hadn't been doing much - they got kicked out of the country and had no plans for checking up in the weapons programs. Now I applaud the US for taking their hard stance on the situation with inspectors because, lets face it, this is the only way inspectors would get back into Iraq. All other nations were content to let it slide. As for war, I would much prefer peace, and I'm too uninformed to make any decision on that.
And no disrespect intended, bokworm, but it seems you have different agendas for different countries. Just because the UN needs to focus on other brutal governments does not mean it should wait until it has rid the world of these governments to help overthrow Iraq's ... brutal ... government

Ah well yeah, I know you are right. I know it kinda sounds like an unrealistic daydream or something, but ultimately I believe that it's gotta be done. Incredibly difficult, yes, but impossible, no. It probably even sounds pretty silly that should even dream of doing this. By myself, obviously I certainly can't do it. But with the aid of others who care, maybe. I realise that I may be putting my thoughts and time into an idea that nothing may come of, but it's worth it to try. Life can't go on the way it's been going. We can't live like this forever. Sometimes, one's just got to wake up and take that blind step, even if it is the most stupid thing they've ever done. Because it will mean something. With a good enough plan for action, I know we can achieve in overturning the government. All that's needed is a plan.

Although perhaps the UN hasn't succeeded in all it's wanted to do, I believe that it should still remain intact. The UN has still done so much, how can we forget that? I don't think the problem lies in the organisation as a whole, but rather a few select members who aren't willing to use diplomacy, who resort to irrational, hazardous 'solutions' which are nothing more than adding to a problem (i.e. the US). But change the problematic habits of these nations, and then we will have a team that can solve problems more effectively.

Freedom
February 12, 2003 - 10:05 AM

Well, we all are the members of takingitglobal but what are we doing, collectively? What is the true role of this virtual organisation?
Talking here wont help, it does in a sense that we create awareness of the TRUE world problems, but that wont stop the U.S. government from bombardin Iraq. War will be there, that's for sure. Now, what we need to do is to contribute, at what ever level possible, towards world peace. This contribution maynot be financial assistance or protests. We need to make people aware of the current problems. We need to show the dark side of the world and tell them that "this isn't what we want".
We all dream of "freedom". Every nation has fought in its defence from the external powers only for one motive, "to live freely". This freedom means having a sense of individuality, equality and freedom of speech. America fought the War of Independence, Moughals resisted the great powers of the West, Turks tried to stop Mongols from entering their region, and so on. Thus, history is full of such battled fought for one motive which is commonly known as "freedom". Over here, I would like to bring the issue of Kashmir into notice. The majority of the people of that region want an end to War, and are lookin for freedom. India, on the other hand, has not been taking into consideration the Laws passed by United Nations. Human rights violation is at its peak. Nothing is beong done to help those miserable people, except that those who try carry guns to save their homeland are called "terrorists". They pick those guns to save their wives, sisters, daughters and children from the brutal acts of Indian Armed forces. Hundrends of Thousands have died over the past fifty-five years, including women and children, for their freedom but the UN resolutions do not mean anything to the Indian Government. The Indian Government has been violating UN resolutions, but no restrictions have ever been imposed on that country. Why is it so? Can't an ordinary man breathe the air of freedom? Why doesnt the UN play the role for which it was formed?. If it doesnt, it should be dissolved, thats what i suggest. I hope that no one will get offended by anything I said, but if someone does get offended, I am sorry.

Re: Bush

you are right thar we cannot blame US for the actions of the UN, but have you ever thought who is running UN? Its the five major powerful nations includin US. Three of those nations are against an attack on Iraq, and only US and Britain are convinced to do so. Why cant the UN, at this stage, stop the US from attackin Iraq? I am in no way against any country or nation of the world, but all I want is world peace, the motive of the UN. I will agree to the fact that the UN has played a its role in many occassions but in many it has proved powerless, especially when the case involves the US. For tha past many years, US has been vetoing all those resolutions passed in Israel and Palestine whereas all the other four countries were in the favour of the resolutions. Now, doesnt this prove the role of US in the UN.
I would agree to the fact that UN should not be dissolved because of its important role in world peace but we need to apply the rule of "majority is authority". All the countries in the UN should be treated equally with equal voting rights. No country should be led to veto the resolutions of the UN. To pass a resolution, all the member countries of the world should be consulted and their votes should be counted in.

Um, no offense Ben-jammin, but you don't know much about the US's idea about Iraq, Bush has been sending troops over before any weapons or hints of weapons were found. Also he was planning WAR before the UN even slightly agreed to anything that he was saying. Before this inspectors have been let into Iraq, not willingly, but not under military threat either. In my agenda I think that countries that are dangerous and unpredictable should be the ones that we try to peacefully help. The US has been under threat from Iraq for decades; have they done anything yet? NO, and personally I doubt that they ever would have, except now they have every reason to be mad at the US. And, I don't mean this in a mean way, but by living across the world, you don't have much to be worried at if America is attacked, do you?
