Curbing AIDS in Africa

What would be your proposal on curbing AIDS in Africa? What campaign do you think would capture young people?
Please kindly counter it with UNAIDS and or UNFPA Programs...I will be more than pleased to provide document to aid this discussion process.
Tell me what you think. Also make your proposal from the Natural Way...void of the use of Abortion & Contraceptives

Fashion statement - ABC

Well, in SA we've got this ABC campaign. ABSTAIN-BE FAITHFUL-CONDOMISE!
From what I've heard it's been going successfully. Ever heard of www.lovelife.org.za ...their programmes and campaigns are quite effective.
I have learned from reliable sources that indeed SA infection rate is decreasing. How about we hear from people in Uganda, Kenya & Botswana, I hear their campaigns have been quite effective! For now I'd say just hook up with loveLife.
What's more vital though, it's about time we learnt to abstain for as long as possible - this should be a fashion statement. Upon reaching a stage of maturity or sexual activity, adopt one-man one-woman one-condom attitude. Condomise all the time!
Last point: Abortion/contraceptives is NOT an HIV/Aids issue, it's a reproductive health issue. How are you linking these two?

love life and let live

I guess considering the affected age group..It would be cool if messsages are intended to creat Behaviour change.Youth refer to ther peers so in this case they are the opinion leaders.Targeting local artistes to do the campaign and passing positive messages to the alreday infected has proved to work in Kenya.the other method used is to give statics of the people affected. The slogan here is love life.Maisha.Avoid making it sound as if you are exxagerating by giving figures of people dying rather emphasize the need to live for an individual and for her country,
Lastly, let the solution be home grown instead of being foreign rather donor driven,we 5ried the former in Kenya and it did not work the latter is working.

AIDS is a disease. It should be treated as such. No stigma, no outcasts.
It is just something the world must bond together and fight through education and medication. I only hope the world comes together to help ease such suffering.
The whole world over.
Come on people, show some love.

Hey Guys,
I think this is a really cool initiative and would like to congratulate the user Pred for starting this thread however, one question must be asked. I do not have much time so this will be really scanty but someone mentioned thta we shouldn't have donor driven initiatives. I would just like to take this thread into consideration - who started it? Was it an African? I am not pointing fingers, but what i am saying is that it is pertinent to the issue that we stop addressing it as some sort of intellectual game show. All too often it seems like people are simply trying to prove how well they know the statistics as oppose to helping people. Talk is good, action is better, determination is the best. Let us stop treating the AIDS epidemic like some sort of whim that you get into when you feel 'caring' and know that you are into the whole 'love, peace and unity' thing. It has got to be a cause we are all ready to be determined to fight for - otherwise we will continue to win sparodic battles but lose the ultimate war!

Jumbo Igeme!
Yes the thread was started by Ayodeji - located in Nigeria...
Igeme - how are you entertaining Ayodeji's request? The question is:
What would be your proposal on curbing AIDS in Africa? What campaign do you think would capture young people? -ayodeji (nigeria)
Now, do you have anything to say? -shoks (sa)
It's true in your own words Igeme: "All too often it seems like people are simply trying to prove how well they know the statistics as oppose to helping people. Talk is good, action is better, determination is the best."
Now come with the best, what is determination?
Ayodeji, why are mixing HIV/Aids and contraception/abortion?
Igeme, please entertain the issue, just as well, Kenya is leads in containing the disease... Tell us how you (in Kenya) do it. PLEASE. TA.

um...yeah...just a thought

this AIDS issue has solutions, not effective ones but they are there.the one that will change everything hasnt come along yet. anyway, i believe that for us (africans, the rest of the world) to curb AIDS we need to change the way people think. I'm talking as someone who hears what my peers say about their sex lives. First thing, my peers arent supposed to have sex lives. but thats just me.
i've attended all girl schools practically all my life. obviously most of the time, girls are talking about boys cause for some reason unknown to us they are the most interesting subject in the world. i have friends who are sexually active and these ladies have brains. they can think, make decisions, etc etc etc. for each girlfriend who has told me about a fandangle she has had with some guy, SHE HAD SEX UNPROTECTED. why? cause she dosnt think HIV will catch her. half my girls are afraid to get tested. they are more afraid of the results than of the disease. what happens to peoples brains when they hop into bed? where does sense walk off to? i think one way to "curb" AIDS in Africa is to change their thought patterns of AIDS. ie paradigm shifts. how? i havent figured that one out yet. but before we get there, we need to get people to think before sex, during and after. YEAH YOU READ RIGHT! THINK DURING SEX AND MAYBE YOU'LL COME TO SOME SENSIBLE CONCLUSION ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DO, WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND WHAT YOU'VE DONE.
just a suggestion .
much love

Hi Guys,
I have been following closely the discussion thread. It is true I did mix up Abortion,Contraceptives, & AIDS while trying to pass on the message...
I mean to say...Contraceptives (alone). Curbing AIDS without the use of contraceptives-as a prevention method.
What campaign do you think will capture young people here in Africa?
Do you think UNAIDS &, or UNFPA, World Bank and other groups working on the promotion of Condoms & other Contraceptives are doing us more good than harm? Are they worth it- for us here in Africa? Is it really effective against the fight of HIV?
Let me know your views...I guess I have made my request a little more exclusive...

AIDS in Africa

I believe that this situation can be cured in a number of ways. By using education, contraceptives, testing, and perhaps expirimental medicine, we will be able to relieve africa of this terrible disease. Many private organizations are starting to focus on Africa as well, and I think that by channeling money from donors in wealthy countries such as Britain and the United States, we can help to save millions of lives.
Thanks,
Mike
