what happens after death?

Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now of Death."
And he said:
You would know the secret of death.
But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life?
The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light.
If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life.
For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one.
In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.
Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour.
Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king?
Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling?
For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?
And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered?
Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance. -The PROPHET, by Kahlil Gibran
I personaly love the book The Prophet, and I think that no matter what religion you are or what your beleifs are I think that this view on death is an amazing outlook on the outline and I feel that it is also very inspiring. I think that if you have lived a full live, live with love and compassion toward all things, done things that give back to the earth and it's people and have overall had a positive effect on the world then you will not fear death for you have fillled you life and are ready to take the next step in existence. We fear the unknown, and death is certainly that. It is fear of the unknown that has driven us to murder millions and sit trembling in the corner when we could be out bettering the world and ourselves, so if you accept that you do not know death, and that fact cannot chne, then to fear it would be useless.

My thoughts on death are that after you die then you die. But that peom did arouse some... stuff to think about.

But the problem is, most death r not able to resurrect, return to life and tell us or justify the after-dead stories.

life after death?
the aspects of life on this planet are so vast that one could spend a lifetime exploring them.
yet life after death has always been an interesting subject to muse upon.
as a kid i remember those nights spent sharing ghost stories with friends and raising all those questions about life after death. there were so many stories about near death experiences of people who recalled things happening to them when they are brought back to consciousness.
in india the concept of
"[i] Punarjanma" rebirth .
is very popular.
many stories have come out in national dailys and magazines about people recalling accurate incidences from their earlier life.
i remember a particular story about a young girl recalling how her inlaws pushed her into a well because she cdnt procure adequate dowry. she died and was born in another village nearby and she led the police to the culprits who were then jailed on the basis of the testimony of the young girl.
weird things have happened and i have heard soooooooo many stories that it just unnerves you.
i think it all happens because we havent yet discovered the potentials and workings of the human body and mind. so we relate or categorise anything extraordinary into the realm of the supernatural...

Life after death

This issue always remains open. Nobody know about the beyond. Although some people talk about incidents, giving them a chance to know about life after death, I don't believe it. Man can not know Other World, because he doesn't know own inner world.
I have some doubt in life after death supposition. I suppose that evey man has fixed course of life and well-defined aim in his life after whereupon he die. Then new life or new man start all over again.

I like to think that existence ends with life - so that we don't take life for granted and do our best to improve our lives and those of others - that is, doing the best we can to make sure the world is a peaceful, safe and nourishing place for future generations.
But I also like to think that there is existence beyond this life, as part of a larger journey for us to improve as beings that exist - learning different lessons along the way until we will eventually learn the ways of living harmoniously with others.
The truth? To me, I don't think it matters. As long as your life is productive and meaningful.

Obviously someone like Hitler will not go to heaven...there should be soemthing like "punishment and reward"....or most simply a kind of justice taking place.

I dont agree with the punishment and reward idea. Why be punished forever for 70ish years of a bad life, similarily, why be rewarded for 70ish years of a good life? I think i read that somewhere else.
I think once you die that is it. You only ever live on in the memories of other people. I guess in a way someone like Hilter who is said to be 'evil', is being punished every day, as everyone 'remembers' or knows him as evil. Where someone like Mother Teresa would be remembered by everyone for a long time as a 'good' person. Maybe that is the heaven/hell idea.
But i guess we cant know, because once your dead, your dead. Thats what happens after death according to Me.

I beleive that there is a universal connection between the energy of all living things. Once a life ends, the spirit returns to the universal flow of energy to be reborn in a new body.

I heard a Pandit talk about this once. I believe in a lotof things from different religions but I don't believe in reincarnation. I believe in a heaven and an afterlife, but I don't believe in hell. The whole thought of a wonderful, loving God that would send his children to an eternal fire doesn't quite add up so I don't believe in a hell.
The poem was lovely, that's sort of how I view death. No matter what we do we will still die so why fight it.

Well, we are just a chunk of earth as the bible says and it is truly a miracle that we have advanced so much interms of our philosophical pursuit. Nonetheless, this does not make humans possess these souls that can go to heaven or hell. I mean, seriously, we are just 40 pencils worth. Nothing more than dirt and the moment we die, we go back to the earth -_-
