wow !thats strong!
would u care to elaborate friend as to why this is so?
In our part of the world...
western education coupled with some insight into one's own culture can be really good.
the only thing required is a learning culture fostered by the parents and the education system.
cheers !

Education is a key to success and this should be a high priority for all governments worldwide. Girls education should be encouraged in all society in order to empower them and make the prepare for the future challenge. Free and compulsary education for elementary school should be promoted.

The Vietnamese education should be change. In my opinion, there are three importain problems that pupils need. They need to learn how to love their country, how to become a good person and how to improve their ideas.[quote]

HOW DREAMS FADE

It is quite intruiging how dreams fade. This is in effect what I have been seeing in Cameroon, my country of origin and residence at moment. When I took up volunteering, little did I know that there were numerous dreamers in the world. These are children aspiring for a better future. But Alas, most of these dreams have faded due to lack of financial, material and moral assistance to help these young fellows persue their golden dreams.

Wow, that is a strong statement. But it must be doing a good job of education if you are using words like “sycophants”.
I am not sure what part of “western education” you are disappointed in … or how your education system is setup. I have found in most of my reading that “eastern style” (usually referring to memorization and upward mobility only by subgroups through testing) is being abandoned and more are looking toward “western style” (promotion of problem solving over memorization and project-based learning with “no child left behind” aspirations.)
Let me know what your feelings are about this and what I am missing in your posting.
Thanks,
Bob Harmon

Perhaps there needs to be a bit of both?
I'm continually grateful for my years of early schooling in Hong Kong (age 2-6) as that taught me discipline and focuss. Also, because of the vast amount of time I spent thinking and learning, I think my brain probably benefitted from that at such a crucial time.
I don't know, whatever the case, it's a lot to do with personal attitude as well, I think!!!

It does not matter whether it is western, eastern, northern, or southern education. Anything that falls in the category of "education" and teaches children and adults alike to use their brains to help expand their realm of thinking, awareness, and focus about themselves and others, must be praised.
