INTRODUCTION ABOUT KONA STORYBOOK CENTER IN SOUTH KOREA.
Kona Storybook Center is running a pilot program Extensive Listening and Reading using storybooks in print and electronic and graded readers on their language acquisition skills. The center has students ranging from elementary children to university students with a unique system to learn English effectively, combining listening, reading, speaking, and writing and presentation skills. The Director of the center Mrs. Young Im Kim is the pioneer of Kona Storybook Center and was also involved in teacher training programs since 1999, in which she shows how to use storybooks and graded readers in their English classes to elementary, middle and high school teachers in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo.
Based on the center theory of educational delivery to help unprivileged and single parents kids, the community is recognizing the effort of the center for its efficiency in on-line stories based self tutorial in learning English to young learners. Kona is the first center of it kind in Gwangju and is part of the center ambition to sensitize for this kind of learning medium. Each class at Kona Storybook Center is composed of students in the same or different grade. The presenter is a Korean English bilingual speaker from Korea. The students come to the class once a week and present their favorite story-map and favorite storybook in front of the class. The presentation will focus on their unique reading model which helps students to learn more, enjoy more and gain more than the traditional method.
The reading system includes

2) Extensive Listening & Reading Log
3) Story-map (Intensive Listening and Intensive Reading)
4) Book Report (Extensive Listening and Extensive Reading)
5) Vocabulary Journal
6) CALL
7) Extensive Reading in Korean
8) Family members as Reading Partners
9) Success Partners
10) Presentation
11) Feedback
12) Responsibility as a Teacher
13) Pleasure of Reading
14) Volunteering (eg) Orphanages) Kona storybook center has a working relation with the orphanages in Gwangju.
At the moment the center is requesting volunteers to do the following.
1. Test preparation
2. English Grammar teaching support
3. Participating in Kona Open-Youth talk show
4. Reading story books to kids in the and to orphan.
I hope you will be able to serve Konastorybook center as a volunteer. Volunteering is a passion for me and also I do volunteering to enhance my CV for future employment purposes. The management of Kona wants to assure you that, if you volunteer for the center like wise others shall able award a certificate and will ever serve as a reference for any of your employer home or abroad when necessary.
