Why
I ask myself
And get no reply
Somethings in life
Have no explanation
at least for me...
or maybe i have not thought so deeply about them ...
the reasons , the 'defintions'( as i feel there are no definite things in life)
describe it....
hmmmmmm when i am happy i just feel that i am floating ....i feel light....i feel i could take off the very next moment...i feel a sense of this energy bottled up inside me waiting to be released ...;-)
happiness....lot of things make me happy...
it could be anything from running down the hill on top speed without thinking of the possible fall...it could be the feeling i get when i sit on a roller coaster....it could be that knowing smile on my father's face when we share a secret...
it could be my mother's warning glance when she is anticipating some stupid comment from me .....
it could be my one year old cousin's toothless smile...which is the most beautiful thing in the whole wide world...
it could be the moment when my best friend made me the godmother of her child( future)....
it could be that my friend is very happy ...so i also become happy...happiness is contagious ;-)
it could be the presence of the one i love( the LOVE)....i am still waiting for that one....:-)
it could be anything and everything....anywhere ...anytime...i dont plan it...happiness is best when unexpected ....and sometimes just in your imagination....
Like keats

ciao

Anu
Letme give you a phrase which might in some sense put all what you said into words.
Happiness is the extreme form of satisfaction.
When we are satisfied, in the broadest of this word's meaning, we are content. Positivity is associated with satisfaction.
Now take that positivity and amplify it! What you will get is the "extreme" positivity or smth that will make you jump, etc.
Happiness

How to be always happy...

Firstly, to be satisfied with who we are, and to spread all love and satisfaction that we have aroud us!
Today most of us are seekeng a deeper meaning in our lives, something more spiritual, what will calm us down and that we are able to see things clearly and we know exactly what is the most important in our lives.
I would like to share with you guys some kind of unique experiece, wich i had, when i was searching some cours of yoga, when i was very stressed and i didn't know exactly how to solve some of the problems in my life ...
I went to the free public programme of SAHAJA YOGA, where we learen how to meditate, find out exactly what we have to do in our lives to improve our way of living.
It's hard to discribe this things with words, but i suggest you to visit an international web site, find your country and visit one of free conferences all over the world .
Take a look at: www.sahajayoga.org
And i'll be glad if you will share an experience with me

well well !
My father is a practitioner of Hatha yoga and he taught some stuff to me when i was a kid.
Starting from simplethings as how to concetrate your energy in a finger, or how to make certain parts of your body ache or get warm!
I, later on, on my own practiced for some time the so-called transcendental meditation which helped greatly in the period of exams
Anyhow, to my question, besides Anu giving phrases which would describe what is happiness for her in certain cses, noone else gave an exhaustive response.
Kristina, I know that these things are hard to put into words, and that's exactly why I asked it here !
Even the semmingly obvious things such as time and space are hard to define or even to describe properly!

Happiness to me is peace, rest, joy, security and content.
Whenever I am at home (I live in a peaceful neighbourhood) or somewhere else that is very, I have time to relax and recover from my busy life, or relax with someone I love (or at least like)and not feel like I'm in danger, I feel content and happy.
Whenever I spend time midlessly playing with my baby cousins, nieces or nephews, or with any other family members that I like, I feel happy.

Aristotle said happiness is in actualizing your potential - to be who you are to the fullest possible extent - this was the most lasting form of happiness - and this requires happiness.
there are many aspects of happiness you will have no control over - you child might be hit by a car for example.
Personally I beleive that happiness is more active than passive - something acheived, not something submitted to.
something that requires focus.
if I wish to be happy in my work I must create the right work for myself - if I wish to be happy in love I must find the right girl and know her when I see her
Love is not a passive thing - it takes more then aceptance - you must create it, and work at it, and maintain it - just ask your parents.
There is the kind of bliss that stupidity brings - but like Aristotle, I reject this as superficial - a cow muching grass might be "happy" and satosfied as far as it goes.
but to borrow from MNOPQ - deep satosfaction - the wise can be more deeply satosfied than the simple - I can acheive deeper levels of happiness than a cow chewing grass.
In short - the more wisedom you have the more you can appreciate life - the more you appreciate life, the happier you will be.

hmmmm yes i think so too!
everything can be concluded or bundled under that big umbrella like word!
'satisfaction' can also mean a momentary distraction from all things going wrong in one's life!
'satisfaction' can also mean that you screwed up everything you possibly could in one day and yet be not sad
what is satisfaction?
why isn't it longterm?
why is it momentary?
According to Advaita philosophy... a person can achieve satisfaction when he/she realises that his /her real nature is 'sat-chit-ananda' ( existence -consciousness-bliss) and that is the ultimate goal of life!
i have no clue... everytime i think about it i start running in circles...maybe i know the answer but i dont know what to do about it !
if satisfaction is the answer what r we to do with it ?

Happiness to me is to be inspired...
the spirit that is the light and wonder of the world being within the heart, in - spire
to be free...
in acceptance...
to be immersed in the mystery and beauty...
and to be satisfied yes!
peace from within, not striven for, just in surrender...
unshakeable joy!
effervescent, bubbling exuberance...
companionship and love...
the sensual and aesthetic and vibrant natural world, weather, rain, snow, sun, wind, swallows, traffic, talk...
to be loved and cherished and to love and cherish...
recovery and healing..
intellectual discovery...
breaking down barriers...
redemption, reconciliation, forgiveness..
love.

Luke i dont agree. In my opinion it is not possible to realize or moreover actualize your potential to its fullest possible extent because I dont think there is limit to human potential All one can do is go higher and higher ..!
"We are architects of our own prison..."
there are many aspects of happiness you will have no control over - you child might be hit by a car for example.
Personally I beleive that happiness is more active than passive - something acheived, not something submitted to.
The result of something achieved, the consequtive flow of feelings you experience!
something that requires focus.

My dear Luke, there is always a factor that doesnt depend on us: right timing and right place! There are many people that have same requests and know the response to the "How" but are in the wrong place in the wrong time.
Love is not a passive thing - it takes more then aceptance - you must create it, and work at it, and maintain it - just ask your parents.
Absolutely

Yes, and to add to what Luke says here as Socrates told
"Life is not worth living unexplored.." !

yes i partially agree ! it gives a lot of happiness when u have the satisfaction of putting in the best u can. but i dont know if we ever realise that at times that we have done the best we could!
we keep on thinking of ways we could have bettered our performance. we are rewinding things in our mind , trying to see where we could have done better.
i saw this movie called the butterfly effect! we all sometimes try to rewind this like that in our mind...we are never satisfied... there is always something more...only thing we dont realise that everything has a consequence. everytime when we try to change one thing we get to a different result!
so this kind of lasting happiness eludes most of us ordinary mortals !
and yes this relates to what Hayk says "it is not possible to realize or moreover actualize your potential to its fullest possible extent because I dont think there is limit to human potential "

oh yes ! so true !
you are right on the mark!
loveis something we cannot take for granted ! this happiness comes with the pleasure of giving !
this happiness cannot come with passivity!

a person who knows too much might sometimes get frustrated easily and become raving mad!
but wisdom is something superior !
something that can make you relax and appreciate life as you rightly said.
Cheers
