Hello Peter and the rest of TIGers,
This dilemma, in different implementations, was repeatedly emerging during the human history of all nations whether on a big or a small scale and it usually caused splits in communitites and after some time formation of new communitites based on new beliefs, new languages, new territories, etc.
This dilemma might not be easily solved as it wasnt easily solved hisorically.
I didnt give much thought to it yet but one thing that comes to mind is to try to get a compromise, i.e. not to look at it as a dilemma but as a new paradox in a society, one of many possbile yet to come. There is a saying, "When you think there is a problem, the thought itself is a problem."
Ok now i dont say this is universally applicable and that there is never a problem but this is effectively eliminating many of possible issues regarded initially as problems.
So I suggest to define some "new" set of values and beliefs of this community where Judaism and Hinduism are EITHER being seen as two parts of one whole OR try to find "common ground" where these two practices will not be mutually exclusive.
It sounds a bit vague, and indeed it is, but might be the right direction to look at..
Cheers,
H.
