Role of Broadcasters and Communities...

My work as a broadcast journalist producing programmes on poverty eradication (and other MDGs) and offering best solutions to sustainable practices to end poverty, has made me realise of the need to offer people with tips on making life better. Some of us who are privileged to access the internet should make sure that we get as much information as our people need to better their lives.
People should look at ending poverty within their community, before they can think of getting aid from outside. The common villager will not understand the MDGs that easily. All the MDGs are interconnected and we should make sure we do not leave out any one of them and just dwell on one. There are some things that can be done without the intervetion of the outside communities. Examples include sustainable farming (using the old systems of natural manure), trapping rain water, planting mangoes, growing variety of food crops.....
I guess journalists have a very big role in informing people about such best practice methods. Communities can also be encouraged to have community seed banks and grain banks for use in times of emergenincies and need.
There are some good tips from Farm Radio http://www.farmradio.org/english
There is also a french version of the Developing Countries Farm Radio Network.
Let's offer our people practical solutions to their problems in the fight to end poverty.
We can do it. Let's pressure our leaders - the headmen, chiefs, MPs, Ministers and the President.
