Well you guys think you bhave a large class or what, noe lets look at this, A normal final year class of 134 Physics students and a spill over of about 87 added from previous year who could not graduate because of some crazy issues that are not supposed to be mentioned. Then do the addituon and tell me what you think

Yes i agree with u that it is much better to have smaller strength in the classroom.it makes learning more fun and teaching a joy. In mumbai, postgraduation could only be done from the university campus itself. the affliated colleges don't offer PG degrees resulting in this sort of congestion in our classrooms.
we usually start with around 200 students in the first year but the number comes down in the second year because many opt out. And Im talkin only of humanities stream. In the science streams the average strength goes up by few more notches.we always thought that this problem arises in our country because of our population explosion.
i wonder if this problem is specific to developing nations.
Or does this occur in developed nations also?

African educational system.

This are part of the reasons why no African University is ranked amongst the worlds top 200 universities.Students are always to much in the classes. One major mistake I have noticed especially in Nigerian Universities is that one Professor will be teaching a particular course say MTH101, but in American colleges, there will be up to 7 professors teaching that class, so students can choose between any of those classes to attend. So if 150 students are to take the class, instead of having 1 single Professor teaching 150 people MTH101, in US colleges there will be just around 25 students presided over by each of the professors

ADEBARIADEOLU dont be so extremely negative. I know what you are talking about but see the link below and rejoice:
http://rankings.ft.com/rankings/mba/rankings.html
that at least South Africa has one university in FT100 rankings!
Together with slow spread of private scholing system in Africa I hope it wll get better and better..!

At Mount Saint Vincent University, the average class size is 18 people. My largest class (Macro Ecomomic) is about 40 people, and smallest (Spanish) is about 14.

I won't talk about the number of students in my uni, I would talk about the number of the student I teach !!!
I work as a math teacher for more than 260 student !!! yes 260 in 4 classes and 24 lessons a week, and the big problem is that I work in the elementary stage which that every child has needs and of course they can't concentrate for a long time, which make teaching them is like miracle, any way I thinking seriously of not doing this miracle any more, Or I hope so.

You know guys, there are class rooms in Egyptian Universities that each of them contains from 4 : 6 thousand students. Especially in Commerce and Law faculties. .. Imagine a professor giving lecture for 6000 students in one single room...
