Dialogue on Conflict

Hi, I'm currently working on organizing a Youth Dialogue on Conflict to be held in the Philippines in 2003, and I'd love to hear your ideas on topics that you feel could or should be discussed by young leaders and youth policy-makers from 25 countries in Asia and Europe who will be attending the event.
The conference is still in its initial prep stages, but your feedback would largely help me in developing a substantial programme. Many thanks in advance for your help!
By the way, should you like to hear more about this event, I can be contacted at cathy@asef.org

Cathy,
great idea. I'd say that it's vital that you cover the historical causes of conflict and the importance this plays. So often in current conflicts all we hear about is what is and has jsut happened, and what people think about these events - rarely do we get any information on where and how the conflict started in the long term.
I'd also be coverring the role of power politics in conflict creation and resolution. Taking the example of the Former Yugoslavia, much of the ethnic conflict seemed to be exacerbated by the militant politicising of ethnicity as a cause for economic and social discontents following the Tito years. Not that I'm an expert, but it appears that politicians twist and reinterpret history and events for political gain in conflict situations.
