Going Back !!
November 26, 2005 - 12:43 PM

I don't know, but I was told that, many professional women, would like to; so to speak, leave their jobs and stay at home once they get married. It is just many are too embarassed to say so publicly.

I thnk it's not 'bout shyness here... There nothing ashamed when leaving their job and be dedicated to family...But while at home, they still can work. If they are professor, they can write books, doing research on internet while they have free time at home...What do you think?

women more professional at home only ?
December 19, 2005 - 12:25 PM

i really have very strong objections at that one. i think men can be equally professional at home. its not just the women.
the only difference is that in our societies men HAVE to perforce follow the rules of masculinity and go to work(its not a choice really!!!!).whereas women are under no such coercion.

That all depends on the live. Where I'm from, working or staying at home is merely a choice. Some women are happier at home, watching over their family. (not to say they can't do so while maintaining jobs) Staying at home isn't embarassing. My mother quit her job when she had me, and has stayed home with me and my sister ever since, and no one judges her any differently for it. Personally, I don't think I could ever become a stay at home mom, since I get too bored at home and need to get out all the time. It's all based on personal preference.

guys and girls,

the times when stereotypic differentaition between professionalism of women and men belongs to past..

most of you probably heart how one of very renowned deans Oxford uni(or Harvard, i m not sure) published an article last year claiming that man had genes explaining their intelligence and tried to explain by this how men are more apt in sciences than women. He got fired or almost fired cause of that article and his theory..

And above all what means professional for you?? you all used the term but none of you defined in what and what's the measure of being pofessional. If you mean cooking at home, then probably women have more chnace of being professional i nvast majority of cases, althought most of world-famous cooks are men, but here we take just in average ad based on stereotype. Recently peoepl put forth even theories that women make better leaders than men, with which i dont agree, based on proven history of all nations! But even there its arguable..
What about measuring the professionalism?? by results i guess of activity in certain domain, field, where the professionalism is expressed. Women, on average and in many industries, are much more studious and tolerant in terms of workload. So if you take, again in general in most industries/domains, their results per hour or during whatever lap of time, they might in the most general of cases be on average more "professional".
I genealized and averaged and of course in many case and many countries, and in many indutries etc its notlike that.. but in generalized average it is.

But if you look at, forexample, major inventions and breakthroughs, whether in science or anywhere else, tis men who did it... or attributed to have done it..

we need to clearly define what is professionalism and even then its hard to measure by tangible results especially in modern world where any product, invention or any bigger than family-scale output result is produced by combined force of many people, mena and women..

hey Hayk,
i agree with you on that one. But then later in this post you have used past data to put forward certain points havent you? why?
The conditions in the past can never be used to substantiate this argument can they be? wouldnt it go against your statement.

hey,
Again why would women be more'professional' cookin at home?
Cooking is not something women naturally excel at! believe me it is not neccessary. cookin is an art which only those who feel comfortable doing it excel in. i know men who are not 'professional' chefs but they are excellent cooks at home.I think it has more to do with interest!

yes! it is arguable but the parameter to judge the veracity is definitely not history.for every woman who came to power (against a million men) had to struggle hard to get there. woman have an equal chance of making good leaders if circumstances side with her. but usually they don't. US never had a women President. India and Sri lanka had good and strong ones.the examples are just not enough to give a verdict . but if you only take the number of woman who came to power against their success rate, i think women would be clear winners.;-)

but
how many women actually got to study science in the past? it was a taboo subject for most of them. for their supposedly 'delicate' constituition was not considered suitable to study such a tough subject.still here too if u measure the success rate then i guess women wd be clear winners ;-)

U got to realized that when women pursuit career will always give up the chance of setting up a family. Women seems cannot hv the best of both world - job prospect & raise children. This is oso tough for women too choose between family & career.
