Israeli Party

According to the Israeli Army Radio, Mr. Sharon has decided to leave the Likud Party. At the same time, the Israeli Labour Party has decided to leave the coalition government. Certainly Israel is having party games, but us in this neighbourhood, we can only have games.

not sure what you mean here.
But certainly it is getting interesting in Israeli politics - I guess it is necissary to really figure this out so they can move forward with confidence through the difficult issues like the West Bank.
Sharon wants to decide the final boarders I think - so he needs a mandate from the people.
I only hope this will not hold up the peace process for too long.

Basically the reason Sharon left the Likud is simple.
He reolized that the Likud didn't really want peace with the Palestinian.
And I think Sharon reolizes that Peace is the only solution. And if anyone is going to finalize the ultimate boarders it is going to be HIM as far as Sharon is concerned.
This is a historic opportunity.
That is why he will beat Bibi in the next general election - because the right wing of the Likud is out of step with the general Israeli population - most of these people just want to constant violence to stop.
Sharon is such a mammoh figure in Israeli politics it is difficult to imagine Peretz beating him.
I suppose its possible - but I can't imagine Israel going that far left - a Centrist right party seems to suit them and the dangerous environment they live in.
You see I imagine it is impossile to win an election in Israel if you are not STRONG on NATIONAL DEFENSE - which Sharon is in spades.

an approach....

The departure of Mr. Sharon from the Likud Party, and establishing his own political party, is likely to push even more, the Likud into a more extreme position regarding the question of Arab-Israeli peace, and particularly peace with the Palestinians. Therefore, it is most likely that in the near future, Mr. Sharon's new party is likely to find more common grounds for a coalition with the Israeli labour. Perhaps it might be a good idea, if Jordan can hold a meeting that gathers the PNA and all the rest of the Palestinian political groups to help them coordinate among each other, as well as create a common Jordanian-Palestinian understanding in view of the current developments in Israel.
