If You Were This Man....
November 13, 2005 - 07:10 AM

My father once told me a story that was more like a puzzle.
There was a poor man who had an aged father, two wives but no single child. This family lived together in abject poverty and became the laughing stock in their community.
The man was very unhappy with his state of affair and particularly because he had no child from any of his two wives to survive him yet he managed to keep them together.
Then came a time when God finally harkened to his supplication, God asked him to choose only one thing he greatly desired from the following and that he would be abundantly blessed with it.
This man summoned his father and wives to jointly decide on what to choose but they would not reach a compromise.
Now, if you are in this man's shoes which one of this would you settle for, is it (1)riches (2)children (3) patience or (4)long life?
You have to remember that you can only opt for one and while making your choice you need to consider many factors.
Although this story has a bottom line but i will await your perusal before i give the concluding part

AlhamdouLellah I am a woman becaue no one can be justice for two women
I would choose patience for this
1 -tolerate these two women
2-satsfy with Allah willing for not having cheldren
3-patience made miracles and is kind of wisdom and all people need to live good life

patience made people happy in life and after life when they gain rewards
salam

I wish to take you back to the story. When this poor man summoned his family to discuss over this issue, the eldest wife chose children saying that even if she died a wretched woman her children would give her a befitting burial and who knows they might be rich and blessed with all other things. The second wife felt riches was the most important thing, they could adopt children and live their lives to the fullest while the father's advice was for him to choose patience.
drbadr, your choice of patience amongst riches, longlife and children does not fail to suprise me. could it be as a result of your status in the society, your religious affiliation, your sex because most people i spoke to prior to writing this thread made their choice based on the aforementioned factors.

Dear son
patience is a gift from Allah and it also exam to have your reward as
patience make you do not harry to get every thing in life but you do all what you can to do and you will wounder the results. It is also a nature of woman to grow her kids well, it is a gift from Allah all my life and AlhamdouLellah he gave me more than I deserve

It does not fail to surprise me that majority of my classmates I spoke with concerning this issue chose wealth amongst all others.
They stressed that living a life of affluent to the fullest for a short while is more glorifying than living longer in penury. According to some of them money is till the most important for as long as you live. "What is the point in having many children when you can not adequately provide for their basic needs?" They asked. "If it has been medically proven that you are barren, you can legally adopt children and give them the best treat in life." They argued. What is patience when the rest of the world is striving for accomplishment in their endeavors" They reasoned. "What is long life and how do you determine it, after all and with due respect both prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ did not live a long life" They submitted.
I have only voiced out the opinions of my mates and this does not necessarily reflect my view on the matter.
May God in His infinite mercy pardon all our shortcomiongs.

wealth, children, long life... all are quantitive values, so Allah will give to you this in a fixed calculated value and that will be finite... wealth>> 1, 10 , 100000 or more, but will any amount of money will solve his problem? he may die next day... children>> again 1, 2... 10 if this world ruin his children ..wht then? or his child ruin his life... any solution?? long life>> living longer without wealth [more than wealth, without patience, he will never attain any amount of happiness]

On other hand patience is the only qualitative value that can not be calculated so cannot be given in any fixed amount, it is only one thing that will nourish your soul to live without other 3 option.

So from my point of view, I think pateince is best the option to ask... after all this will make me happy to live with whatever i will have!

without much ado about nothing, i would certainly choose PATIENCE, cos God said choose one and it will be granted unto u right and not the others will never be granted unto u after u make a choice. so i will definitely need an abundance of patience to bear up till when i get all the other things i so desire which will include children and wealth, patience to bear the seeming ridicule from my surroundings while i wait and above all patience to bear the stress that wealth and children bring when they finally come

For me, my choice would be children. A life of wealth even with long life is not fulfilling without somebody to love, care and of course survive the person. I understand that if I choose children I cant have the other 2 anyway, but the satisfaction of joy and life will be worth the trade for me.
