[Poll] THERE IS ONLY ONE GOD
October 30, 2005 - 12:40 PM
|
|
"Truly, I am Allah; there is no God but I; therefore serve Me" [Al-Qur’an 20:14]
The fundamental pillar of faith in Islam is to testify that "there is no deity worthy of worship except the One True Almighty God"
(in Arabic: "La ilaha ill Allah",
"there is no God but Allah",)
the greatest statement of the Arabic language.
Islam is based on the concept of Tawhid, or Unity of God. Muslims are strictly monotheistic, and fiercely reject any attempt to make God visible or human. Islam rejects any form of idol worship, even if it is an attempt to get "closer" to God, and rejects the Trinity or any attempt to make God human.
"Say, 'He is Allah, the One;
Allah, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begets not, and neither is He begotten;
And there is nothing that can be compared to Him."
Qur'an 112:1-4
God = Goddes ???
is it possible ???
In Muslim understanding, God is beyond our sight and understanding, yet at the same time "nearer to us than our jugular vein" (Qur'an 50:16). Muslims pray directly to God, with no intermediary, and seek guidance from Him alone, because "...Allah knows well the secrets of your hearts" (Qur'an 5:7).
"When My servants ask thee concerning Me,
I am indeed close (to them).
I respond to the prayer of every suppliant when he calls on Me.
Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me,
that they may walk in the right way."
Qur'an 2:186
In the Qur'an, people are asked to look around them for the signs of Allah in the natural world. The balance of the world, the rhythms of life, are "signs for those who would believe." The universe is in perfect order: the orbits of the planets, the cycles of life and death, the seasons of the year, the mountains and the rivers, the mysteries of the human body. This order and balance are not haphazard nor random. The world, and everything in it, has been created with a perfect plan, by the One who knows all.

I agree, I think all actions boils down to intentions. The Christians in Egypt also use Allah to refer to their God. Even Christian here "Hallelujah" (Praise be to God).
Using the word God instead of Allah. I would think it is acceptable. I do it. It’s a case of preferable choice. There are some arguments over that the word 'Allah' is greater than the word 'God.' It means He is the only one and nothing is higher than Him, nothing is associated with Him and there is nothing like Him. As far as I know, there is nothing in the Qur'an or Hadith that suggest that it is Haraam nor disliked. So it is useless to argue about something with no form of evidence. Frankly I think there shouldn't be useless arguments such as this over something so trivial and that time and energy should be invested on real ISSUES that needs attentiveness.

"Al" which means "The"
"Illah" which means "God"
°°°
"Allah" has no gender. While, God can be male/female i.e. God/Goddess
°°°
"Allah" is ONE and literally means THE GOD, While, God may be singular and plural

"Allah" is not only the personal name of God as used in the Holy Qur'an and Elohim is used in Hebrew referring Allah, The ending letters 'im' is a plural of respect, majesty and grandeur, without the ending 'im', it becomes
Eloh (Ilah in Arabic).

It is well said:
" Saying the name of the one you love is always a pleasure for the lover"
Same goes here. As a muslim, we all love Allah The Almighty. And follow all of His orders and sayings.So it should not be a matter for us to think, whether to say it or not!
In Short, If you do love ALLAH, you never think whether to say ALLAH or God.
FINALLY, IN CLEAR WORDS, THE CHOICE IS UPTO YOU !!!!!1

of course the niyat has to be right..
but then thats(Allah) the superlative form that we attribute to Allah, according to the definition of the Holy Quran. The concept of God in other religions differ and are haevily manipulated. By Allah, we mean, The God, the eternal, the absolute, the cherisher and sustainer, Muslims have a very specific definition. However, by God it may mean, any of the many dieties that the Hindus worship, or those personifications that other religions worship. Therefore, put simply, we can say that God is a collective term to which a lot of Unislamic characteristics are attributed, but Allah is a more specific and precise definition of the muslim concept of God.

Shobuz, it is not like you write in English. God is God. When you speak of gods in plural, you use a small "g." Only when you speak of God do you use a capital "g". And God cannot be "Goddess," because there is no such thing. There is only such a thing as "goddess." Also, you don't write or say "the God" in English, because if you add "the" in front of it, that would indicate that there is more and one god and that means it should have a small "g," so we call Him "God" as if it were His name. You only use the plural "gods" and an article "the/a" when you are talking about pagan and mythical gods and goddesses, which are not God. Gods/goddesses and God are two separate, essentially unrelated things.
Every language has its own name or word to refer to God. The fact that it is not the same in all languages does not mean that one name or word is less holy than another and it doesn't mean that everyone speaking a language other than Arabic worships a different or a pagan god. Allah, God, Dieu, Gott, Jumala, Gud, Dios, Dio... - they all refer to one and the same entity, they are what He is called in the languages of different people.
I once got upset at an English-speaking person for a hostile assertion that Muslims worship Allah and not God. I cleared up the linguistic ignorance on that person's part, if not his bias.[/B][/QUOTE]
What i think is that, Allah know all the language and the language difference also. What i think is that we should not do or think what we know or understand or what is our personal opinion as i saw others comment in this thread, we should try to understand what ALLAH said in Koran and if we do not understand we just should do what ALLAH said
"Truly, I am Allah; there is no God but I; therefore serve Me" [Al-Qur’an 20:14]
This is not anyones personal opinion.coz ALLAH knows best.
If we call or show respect by our own views than why ALLAH send us the messeges in Koran.
As because the Question is like ''AS A MUSLIM''...
So AS A MUSLIM we should follow what is written in Koran nothing else what i think or what my mind says.
salam everybody
eid mobarok

Allah is the Name of the Lord, the Exalted. It is said that Allah is the Greatest and unique Name of Allah (no one has the name of Allah except the only God, Allah is not plural or according to gender)), because it is referred to when describing Allah by the various attributes. For instance, Allah said,
(He is Allah, beside Whom La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He) the Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. He is Allah, beside Whom La ilaha illa Huwa, the King, the Holy, the One free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the Almighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! (High is He) above all that they associate as partners with Him. He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong the Best Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the Almighty, the Wise) (59:22-24).
Allah has 99 names mentioned in Quraan
[وَللَّهِ الأَسْمَآءُ الْحُسْنَى فَادْعُوهُ بِهَا]
(And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them) (7:180), and,
[قُلِ ادْعُواْ اللَّهَ أَوِ ادْعُواْ الرَّحْمَـنَ أَيًّا مَّا تَدْعُواْ فَلَهُ الاٌّسْمَآءَ الْحُسْنَى]
(Say (O Muhammad "Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Gracious (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names.'') (17:110)
