[Poll] Information on AFRICA
October 20, 2005 - 09:13 AM

Hello everyone!

My name is Kimberly and I would like to ask you all a question. How many of you would like to see more information on the web about Africa? Most of us who have grown up in the current G8 countries never had the opportunity to gain in depth knowledge of Africa or Africans in secondary school, much less elementary school. I personally believe that the first step to eradicating poverty, conflict and promoting unity and tolerance is through education. You can't act if you don't know. If we as a generation are going to help Africa, we will have to get in the know. If you would like to see a web-based initiative start in educating the world about Africa and all of its aspects, send me an email at kimberly_a_bennett@hotmail.com.

Thank you!

Good idea
October 21, 2005 - 08:16 AM

I agree with bringing an idea like this to life because so many young people have no real idea what is going on in the continent of Africa. I can tell you that most if not all think its a country where everyone is poor and suffering and they have no clue about other problems which the continent may face like HIV/AIDS, Crime etc... However I must say there are a lot of positive happening as well and i think it would be great to highlight these positives more than just educating the young people about the negatives.

The World Youth Action for Africa Project
October 21, 2005 - 09:42 AM

Thank you all for your replies to my idea! This organization would built for the purpose of dispelling the myths of Africa, highlighting the positives and assessing and solving the negatives. I would like to see this as a website where the content is advised and/or written by Africans, so that it is authentic, current and fresh. If you would like more detail on the project, please send me your email addresses and I will forward you all a copy of the summary of WYAA. Keep voting and thank you for your support.

Répartition équitable de l'information
October 21, 2005 - 10:43 AM

je te remercie kimberley de faire ressortir l'intérêt d'avoir plus de sujets traitant de l'afrique pour un échange équitable dans l'information entre le nord et le sud;

Sure all what u talk about is reality, and really africa is home of more ethinc people,if we wanna to study about africa let Us go back history in africa, i am from africa and from worst poor, hunger voilence and i have more ducument i call my home, ungoverned region and battle of human right on earth, Sure africa needs, help, but this help is not resourse, it is, good governance and democracy,

So my question is how we may bring african leadesr to save their home and people from hunger genocide.internatinal community gives africa alot of millions but they doint flow up. last year world give millions of money ethiopia, where people are dying hunger, and forces shot people during may election 2005, where there are more than 12000 people where massacre, in ethiopia towns of addiss abab arba minji, gonder jimaa, in ogaden region of easten in ethiopia, forces of ruling party killed 40 in 1 hour where hundred are massacre. you know also in sudan what happinig in darfur, so africa needs good democracy and human right respect, freedom of speach, so in my book on way that i call, africa is hard to understand democracy. will be more hight ligh, education in africa is not well done, students movement of understand of life never alowed or any group of student so hpw education will effect?//

Hello Kimberly,
I thought that the project about pooling a lot of information and informing people about Africa and the potential of Africans was a great idea.
I do not know th reason why it somewhat is on the hold but i think that it is a great idea and you should come on board with it.
I am sure you will get people to help you. I and all out to help in any way!

I think that it is a great idea- a website that provides info on Africa like it' history and why it is in the state that it is now would definetly be useful as I know many young people you are concerned about the issues but becuase they do not have a lot of REAL information about the country itself and only the independent statistics about one thing or another. It would be agreat tool to help educate people and get them inspired into making a difference!
