[Poll] Active Rank!
September 4, 2005 - 07:20 AM

Hi!

Few days ago TIG was showing the active rank of members.
That helped us to know where we are.
I would suggest that it should be possible somehow to know one's own active rank on request.

Thanks!

We removed this from the view of members a few weeks ago because it was basically causing confusion as to what it was and what it meant. The active rank, which is now largely out of date and needs to be updated is used by us internally for a number of reasons and measures such as showing which countries are most active.

In my mind, what purpose does knowing your active rank serve? I'm not trying to attack, I'm just trying to understand better smile

Well!
It's like, the higher you are in that rank, the better you have contributed. So it's a ready refernce to one's own contributions wrt others. That can create a spirit of a healthy competition.

It can create healthy competition, but it is also very likely to create some unhealthy competition. Just some advise from experience on other discussion boards, as well as the TIG ones!

Well...

In terms of watching your progress, you can see what you've posted and what your content is on your own profile page or your MyTIG page (http://my.takingitglobal.org) I'm not sure how much a number will really tell you.

Yeah, if you have a pretty high rank, it can be encouraging, but a low rank can have the opposite effect.

Although the competition can be fun, it may place discrimination on some or bands of superiority, which is not good. Also, different people have different reasons for joining TakingITGlobal, so you shouldn't be ranking people based on set criteria. Also, people have busy lives - they may want to feel a part of this community but not subjected to any degrading remarks (direct or indirect, such as a low rank) for not contributing as much as say, people who can spend a lot of time on here.

I don't particularly believe we need an active rank... We all know what contributions we make, and we all know how much should be contributing or want to be....

few days back i too inquired about what this active rank means... its good to know about one own's rank, but competing here jus for having higher active rank will lose member's interest of real theme for joing Tig. As for tig's office purpose, as mentioned by Hugh, they can have it in such a way that only official tig staff can view it, beside this they can send us an email once in a month about our activity it can be numbers [active rank], areas where we contributed [ already appear in my.takingitglobal.org] etc etc.
