Anyone have details on the stampeding event that happened on the bridge in Iraq? Was it due to a terrorist or just tragic circumstance? Is there really anyone to blame?

Are you taking about the Shiite pilgrims? I think that what happened was that there was a panic because there was a suspected suicide bomber in the crowd. Thus, they ran across the bridge and people fell off. It was mostly women and children who died.

APPEAL
The recent earth-quack has caused unprecedented devastation in Jammu and Kashmir killing thousands of people on both sides of Kashmir. Besides, thousands of houses have been raised to ground and thousands rendered unfit for human habitation in different villages effected by this catastrophe compelling people to live under open sky when winter is approaching. NGO’s and voluntary organizations have started collecting relief. The relief distribution is again a challenging task. Relief to inaccessible areas, where people are in immediate need, is a gigantic task with numerous challenges, which the relief distribution agencies have to face. It is a testing time for us as a nation when we need to respond to the situation and rise to the occasion to support the victims of disaster, not only materially but also emotionally. Civil society as a whole has to come forward to help compatriots mitigate their sufferings.
To face this tragedy various voluntary organizations have taken initiative named ATHROT, a relief action programme for the earthquake victims. ATHROT is a collective effort of independent voluntary organisations and individuals like Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society, Kashmir Times Publications, Jammu and Kashmir Yateem Foundation, Help Poor Voluntary Trust, Friends of Humanity, Students’ Helpline, Kashmiri Womens’ Initiative for Peace and Disarmamant, Apna Ghar, Youth for Humanity, Bar Association Budgam, students from Kashmir University and various Colleges and members from Business community.
The purpose of the initiative is to coordinate the efforts of the voluntary organisations and the individuals to put up a united, organized, concerted and sustained effort with short term and long-term programme for the rehabilitation of the victims particularly in inaccessible areas.
ATHROT shall welcome other organisations for this collective effort to mitigate the sufferings of these victims. ATHROT is opening centers at different places like Uri, Salamabad, Karnah, Tangdar, Teetwal, Keran, Macchil for relief distribution. It will be adopting the worst hit village from each area.
The cries of our brothers, the sobs of our sisters in grief, the innocence of the shelter-less children, the injured, the old and the infirm are beckoning our conscience to come forward in this hour of need to support the victims.
Also, a blood donation camp for Jammu and Kashmir victims, especially for those of Muzzaffarabad will be held on Sunday, the 16th of October 2005 at the office of the Coalition of Civil Society, The Bund , Amirakadal, Srinagar. Your little help can make big difference.
Help ATHROT help the victims. Deposit your contributions at Jammu and Kashmir Bank, polo view Branch, Srinagar in account of JKYF, account number SB 1169.
